Woodend Hospital is a health facility located in the Woodend area of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is managed by NHS Grampian. Person-centred visiting is less about having fixed visiting times and more about staff, friends, family members and carers working together to support those in hospital in the best way possible. If it is decided at your consultation that you need surgery, you will need to have your fitness for an operation assessed (known as pre-admission assessment). This is carried out immediately after your consultation in the Outpatient Department, the Short Stay Unit or in Phase 2 of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Staff will direct you to the right place. If your assessment can't be carried out immediately after your consultation, we will arrange another appointment for this to be done. If you have brought medicines with you please hand them to the nurse on admission. This includes all prescribed medicines and also any non-prescribed medicines which have been bought such as pain killers, cough and cold remedies, antihistamines, indigestion remedies, antidiarrhoeals, laxatives, herbal and homeopathic medicines.Your assessment will be carried out by health care professionals and can take from 30 minutes up to several hours. Having an assessment done at this time means that you will have to spend less time in hospital when you come in for your operation. Volunteers will be expected to complete any training relevant to their role and in return they will be supported through induction and orientation and have the support of a nominated Volunteer Co-ordinator throughout their placement. Learning will be offered in a variety of methods, some online and our colleagues in Learning & Development are available to support any volunteer that may require additional support to complete any aspect of learning. If you do not turn up for your appointment or admission, the time you have to wait to be seen at the hospital will be counted from the date you were supposed to attend. Patients attending some clinics now have the option of receiving a text (SMS) reminder of their appointment. Full details are available in this patient information sheet(pdf). Don't be afraid to ask what you feel may be a stupid question. The questions you have are important and can often indicate an important concern or misunderstanding.
