Description

Published in 1986 as a fable about following your dreams, The Alchemist tells the story of a young shepherd who visualizes buried treasure underneath the Pyramids of Egypt and sets out on an adventure to pursue it. Is The Zero Hour Workweek by Jonathan Mead an even better version of the famous 4-Hour Workweek? Not exactly. Because this book doesn’t tell you how to reduce your working hours, but how to create a job that doesn’t feel like work at all. Jonathan explains how he managed to build a lifestyle where he can’t tell the difference between work and play anymore. Startup is another remarkable book written by Chris Guillebeau (you probably can’t go wrong with any of his books). Many aspiring digital nomads want to start their own business and this book teaches you how to do so on a small budget.

Whether you dream of living on a beach in Thailand, traveling to all 195 countries or simply living out your best life without the stresses of the office, there has never been a better time to pursue your nomad dreams.

13 must-read digital nomad books

Authored by the illustrator Austin Kleon, the book outlines 10 simple rules that run contrary to received wisdom about the nature of creative work from the importance of side projects to the physical form to creative theft and subtraction. Looking at digital nomadism from a different perspective, Remote is considered a handbook for anyone looking to employ remote workers as it shows how employers and employees can increasingly collaborate together from anywhere in the world. So if you are starting out on your path to becoming a digital nomad, here are 13 inspirational books to add to your reading list in 2020 to help you take those first important steps to remote working. 13 must-read digital nomad books Decide when, where and how to work, to finally live your life every day and not just on the weekends. 17. The Zero Hour Workweek Be a Free-Range Human by Marianne Cantwell is a great book for people struggling with their work-life balance and seeking personal growth. This practical guide helps you to create a life of fulfillment by leaving behind what you don’t need and focus on what makes you truly happy.

The book goes a long way to challenging the common misconception that you need a lot of start up capital to launch your own business. By the same token, many of the startup businesses mentioned are deliberately small allowing the business owner to travel and manage their own lifestyle as a priority. Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh is one of those digital nomad books, that help you a lot when you work with clients, have customers, need to outsource to freelancers or have employees. If you want to work together with them successfully in the long-run, you need to learn how to create delight for everyone involved in your business. You will also get plenty of tips on how to make friends while traveling, how to stay productive and get your work done and learn the best advice on how to stay safe while being on the road. Whether you are a seasoned digital nomad or an aspiring nomad, there is a lot to learn, and you can never read too much. I really liked the story. Nomad spent considerable time explaining the scientific basis of the astronomical disaster, while Sanctuary focused more on the small group human reactions to it. All the while the action continues at a good pace. The main characters are well developed, and the heroine, although she has self doubts, steps up to be the true leader (although one would expect no less of a Marine - Semper Fi Jess). I think the only thing that keeps me from giving these books five stars is that the main characters' escapes from capture and death, and the "coincidences" that occur seem to be too much.Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century is a 2017 nonfiction book by American journalist Jessica Bruder about the phenomenon of older Americans who, following the Great Recession from 2007 to 2009, adopted transient lifestyles traveling around the United States in search of seasonal work ( vandwelling). [1] [2] Written by James Clear, a bodybuilder and habits expert, the book details how small changes to our everyday behaviors can compound over time to make us far healthier, happier, more productive and more successful. Using examples from ancient history to olympic cycling, the book covers a great deal of ground and is extremely precise on why we often fail to maintain good habits and what we can do to improve our odds.

Light on practical information but heavy on positive inspiration, Crush It! is a great choice for aspiring digital nomads looking to tap into the energy of a bona fide serial entrepreneur who has already walked the same path before you. As the opening chapter notes: "The world is changing. Markets have crashed. Jobs have disappeared. Industries have been disrupted and are being remade before our eyes" creating an imperative to Choose Yourself rather than a conventional corporate career. 3. Crush It! However, it remains one of the best-selling books of all time and has been translated into 80 different languages— testament to its ability to inspire people of all cultures to follow their dreams no matter what. 5. When To Jump In Rich Dad, Poor Dad Robert Kiyosaki writes about his own father, the poor dad, and his friend’s father, the rich dad. He explains how his dad is highly educated but still financially unstable, while his friends’ dad is a school dropout and multimillionaire. Both men approach the way to achieve success differently and with very different outcomes.Bad points: I guessed parts of the climax a chapter before it actually happened; not gonna give any details on that. Also, near the end, I thought the super smart scientist made a strange and stupid decision. Like I didn't understand why he couldn't wait. Also, while I didn't mind the human aspect of the story, I thought it overshadowed the science. It was almost like the sci-fi was a footnote to the thriller-adventure aspect. As a guide to digital nomadism, The 4 Hour Workweek is perhaps the obvious place to start. 2. Choose Yourself Saying that, the first book is certainly not terrible and the science behind it is both fascinating and well-researched. This was what led me to continue with the follow-ups. I won't give away any spoilers, but, unfortunately, the following three books are very, very poor. They feel lazy and rushed, highly repetitive and are littered with typos. They don't seem to have been edited, the characters are one dimensional (evidenced most strongly by the fact that every single person in the whole book speaks in exactly the same manner). I can honestly say that if any of the characters from the smallest all the way up to the main character had been killed at any point, I would not have cared in the slightest. These three books should have been condensed into one volume - and then there might have been a semi-decent two part series. There is a wealth of inspiring books for digital nomads that give practical tips on how to balance work and play, how to start your own business, get out of the 9-5 lifestyle, and how to be more efficient in your work so that you can spend more time having fun.

You often meet other nomads that are more successful than you, and it is easy to think that you are a failure or not good enough. Many digital nomads do not have a boss or colleagues that can reassure them that their work is good enough.Because that is why most of us choose this life, right? To have more time to travel and do what we enjoy the most. Exploring the world has never been easier but a round-the-world trip can still be pretty draining on the finances — especially if you are quitting employment to travel long term. Written as a call to arms for those seeking an alternative to corporate life, Choose Yourself by James Altucher is one of those books that is almost guaranteed to change your life.
