Description

The heating element in the glow plug is electrified so it heats up and emits visible light (hence the name); Disconnect the plastic beauty cover from the engine’s top. Pull it upwards to free the rubber cups from the mountings. Disconnect if there are any other rubber cups on the engine and reinstall them in the plastic cover hooks. It is best to use a digital multimeter for this test. It will show the exact result of the test, while an analog meter will list a range of results, making it harder to read/conclude. If you are using an analog multimeter, make sure to choose one with at least 20kohm/V sensitivity.

glow plugs | BERU Car parts explained: glow plugs | BERU

A glow plug is a heating element that heats incoming fuel and air to encourage efficient fuel combustion in a diesel engine. The fuel combustion starts your engine so that you can drive. Each cylinder of your engine has one glow plug, either in the pre-chamber (pre-chambered engines) or in the combustion chamber (direct-injection engines). White exhaust smoke – a defective glow plug will cause diesel to leak into the exhaust where it burns. DENSO has a history of pioneering innovation in diesel engine components, always making improvements to quality and efficiency. It introduced the first ceramic glow plugs for the OE market, and was behind the first common-rail diesel engine in a production vehicle.

Hard to start – this could mean the engine is slow to start in warm weather or fails to start in cold weather. However, this can also be a symptom of a problem in the fuel system or battery.

Heavy Machinery Natrad’s heavy duty workshops are dedicated to providing heavy machinery cooling solutions Testing your glow plugs is quite a simple task. The only thing you need is a digital multimeter that can measure resistance and the tools to access the glow plug connections. While the multimeter can seem daunting because of its many numbers and dials, you only need to use one setting for this test: Ohms. The ohms setting will be denoted by the omega symbol (Ω) resembling a horseshoe. Unless you have an auto-ranging multimeter, you will also be able to set the maximum range for the test. You can always change this during the test if you find you aren’t getting a useful reading, Reliable power start after start – Beru glow plugs are manufactured by BorgWarner, who also produces glow plugs that meet original equipment (OE) manufacturer standards, so you can be certain of high-quality parts that you can rely on. Beru glow plugs cover 95% of the glow plug market for diesel cars in Europe. Hard starting: this refers to a difficult to start car when you turn on the ignition. This could be due to damaged or old plugs, which results in too low a temperature to start the engine with.Almost all buyers found that the glow plug tester is designed for outdoor use at any temperature. A few say that the glow plug tester is compatible with many different types of vehicle batteries. Why We Like This:

If any of these sound familiar, your glow plugs could be the culprit. To test them yourself, refer to our guide below. If you’re not comfortable DIY-ing, talk to one of our technicians today! What’s more, they’ll allow you to test the glow plugs themselves without having to remove them from the engine making it a much easier process all round. Quality Glow Plug Testers The simplest way to test glow plugs is with a clip on current clamp, either on supply wire to glow plugs or on engine earth, with glow plug light on you should see 15-20amps for each glow plug fitted, 4 cylinders would be approximately 60-80amps. Add to this the fact that it also measures resistance for evaluation of the specifics of that plug and it’s easy to see why every mechanic needs one in their tool kit.Today, DENSO offers its product and engineering expertise to the aftermarket, including an all-makes, OEM-quality glow plug program. With fast heat-up times, long-lasting post-heat temperatures and excellent car parc coverage with a simple part reference system, DENSO Glow Plugs are designed to support the aftermarket in every way possible.
