Decreases the level of serum enzymes, namely, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and bilirubin Different parts of the fennel plant get used for cooking, and you can usually find its seeds dried in whole or powdered form. A stinging breath is one of the most uncomfortable things to experience. These bacteria can accumulate in your mouth and produce sulfur compounds which is the reason behind bad breath.

During the pandemic, when sit-down dinners at Indian restaurants were few and far between, I started serving myself a sugar bowl of saunf mithai after dinner to satisfy my childhood nostalgia. The hard candy shell of the saunf mithai was a treat to reward myself for cooking at home, and I found myself incorporating the candied fennel seeds into my baking for subtle licorice notes and fun color. The crunchy flavor bombs are versatile, festive, and sweet—add them pretty much anywhere you’d use sugar sprinkles to enhance your desserts. Here’s how to use saunf mithai in your desserts It not only improves your vision but deters the spread of glaucoma and cataract. 8- Supports Reproductive Health in Females Indians often serve a selection of mouth fresheners after a meal, at their home, at parties as well as at most Indian restaurants. They freshen the mouth and breath, help with the digestion and have some cooling and anti-flatulent properties. In their simplest form, mouth fresheners can be any one of these things; green cardamoms, plain fennel seeds, sugar coated fennel seeds, lemony fennel seeds, chopped-flavoured-softened and sweetened betel nuts of various shapes and sizes, Dhana-roasted core of coriander seeds, Misri-crystalised sugar. When more than one ingredient are mixed together, they are called Mukhwas (mukh=mouth and was=smell. These mouth fresheners can vary from house to house, restaurants to restaurant and between different parts of India. Mukhwas may be in the form of a Paan, a fresh betel leaf (piper betel), parcel with other mouth fresheners wrapped inside it. Many good parties in India will offer you a selection of paans and mouth fresheners, often hiring a Paan Walla for the evening to make them to your liking. Paan wallas are recognised for their own special way of making them. Their usually tiny, box like, shops can be found around India on each street corner. Some of the most famous varieties of paans are Plain, Banarsi, Maghai, Meetha, Tobacco (with chewing tobacco). Tobacco paans are not recommended, as tobacco is well known to cause oral cancers. Mix equal amounts of fine saunf (anise seeds) and Misri/Mishri (small crystals of sugar) in a bowl. Store in a jar. Serve after meals. One of the stunning benefits of saunf is that it is absolutely a treat for female health. Suffering from extremely painful periods, saunf can benefit you alongside all other home remedies.Things like sweet coconut shavings, Gulkand rose petal conserve, plain/sweetened cardamom seeds or seeds coated with silver leaf, plain or sugar coated anise/fennel, saffron can be added.

By comparison, an apple has about 3–4 grams of fiber. Before we head to the benefits of fennel seeds, here is all you need to know about the fennel plant!A total of 78 compounds were identified from the active antimycobacterial fraction of F. vulgare with the help of gas chromatography-mass spectra (GC-MS). Out of these, twenty compounds were tested against one sensitive and three MDR strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis using the Alamar Blue microassay. Compounds that showed some degree of antimycobacterial activity against all strains tested were the following: linoleic acid (MIC 100 μg/mL), oleic acid (MIC 100 μg/mL), 1,3-benzenediol (MIC 100–200 μg/mL), undecanal (MIC 50–200 μg/mL), and 2,4-undecadienal (MIC 25–50 μg/mL). 2,4-Undecadienal was the most active compound against multidrug resistant M. tuberculosis species. Thus, the dietary intake of F. vulgare may lower the risk of M. tuberculosis infection [ 63]. Of course, I LOVED that crunchy, sugary, artificially-colored saunf as a kid. (And I still do!) But, candy-coated mukhwas are just ONE variety—and unfortunately, it’s not the healthiest! These lightened-up candied fennel seeds are actually closer to traditional mukhwas recipes, and they’re unbelievably simple to make. Orhan et al. [ 5] studied the antiviral activity of the essential oil of fruit sample of F. vulgare along with 12 other Turkish medicinal plants against the DNA virus Herpes simplex type-1 (HSV-1) and the RNA virus parainfluenza type-3 (PI-3). Most of the oils and compounds displayed strong antiviral effects against HSV-1, ranging between 0.8 and 0.025 μg/mL. However, the samples tested were less effective against PI-3, with results ranging between 1.6 and 0.2 μg/mL. Only the essential oils of Anethum graveolens, Foeniculum vulgare (fully mature), Mentha piperita, Mentha spicata, Ocimum minutiflorum, Ocimum vulgaris, and Satureja cuneifolia inhibited this virus significantly. In cases of the stomach flu, fiber helps to bulk up and treat watery diarrhea which helps to slow down and prevent loose or runny bowel movements.

It exhibits 17.49, 21.16, and 22.03% reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in normotensive rabbits at 0.3%, 0.6%, and 1.2% (w/v) concentrations of extract Cream containing 2% fennel is better than the cream containing 1% fennel and these two were more potent than placebo Loaded with healthy nutrients, fennel seeds can surely give a boost to your health. As an alternative to stirring the seeds in a bowl, they could be made in a wide pan - especially useful if you wanted to make a larger quantity, since they needed enough room to spread out while drying. The seeds could be tilted or swirled in the pan instead of stirred (that would be why the larger panning machines get the look from) - with the momentum being used to mix the seeds and break up clumps. You can use a spoon or even your hands to break up clumps as you go.

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, don’t take fennel seeds. Not enough is known about their safety. Talk to your doctor before you add fennel seeds or other supplements to your diet.Several studies indicating the antifungal effect of F. vulgare along with antibacterial effect are also reported in the literature. Martins et al. [ 94] investigated the antibacterial and antifungal effects of three essential oils of Portuguese plants, namely, Foeniculum vulgare, Mentha spicata, and Rosmarinus officinalis against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomona aeruginosa, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Candida albicans, and phytopathogenic molds, Aspergillus niger and Fusarium oxysporum. Essential oil of F. vulgare showed significant antifungal activity against the food spoilage fungi Aspergillus niger and Fusarium oxysporum and may have important applications as food additives. The MIC values of F. vulgare essential oil were 250 μg/mL for Fusarium oxysporum and 750 μg/mL for Aspergillus niger [ 94]. The oils extracted from F. vulgare exhibit varying levels of antifungal effects on the experimental mycelial growth of Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysporum, and Rhizoctonia solani [ 95]. Essential oil of F. vulgare showed appreciable antifungal activity against strains of pathogenic fungi, namely, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium solani, and Rhizopus solani [ 96]. Dichloromethane extracts and essential oils from F. vulgare showed antifungal activity against Candida albicans. It could be a potential candidate for a new antifungal agent for candidiasis and other fungal diseases [ 97]. In an in vitro study, aqueous and alcoholic seed extracts of F. vulgare exhibited inhibitory effect against Alternaria alternata, Mucor rouxii, and Aspergillus flavus [ 98]. Interestingly, aqueous seed extract of F. vulgare showed strongest antifungal activity as compared to reference fungicidal agent, that is, griseofulvin [ 99]. This may help get rid of bacteria that can cause gassiness in cases of food poisoning or an upset stomach. Antinflammatory Some people use fennel and fennel seeds to make a natural gripe water for older babies. This water may help relieve symptoms of gassiness or colic in infants. First, when boiling the water and sugar mixture, be sure to stir continuously (the whole time!) until a syrup starts to form and you see those bubbles coming up. You want a very well integrated syrup mixture for the best, smoothest result! Once it’s bubbling, that’s your signal to immediately turn down the heat to medium and add the fennel seeds.
