I have to warn people though that this book is heavy on the insta-love and is quite cliche at times! Pippa and Jamie are perfect characters and I love how the two of them communicate and seem to feed off of each other. The romance and initial attraction is there from the first page, but the actual romance takes a while to develop.

if you enjoy hockey romances, spice, a protective MMC, and the grumpy x sunshine trope, please read this. there were so many times where i had to read over some of the scenes because i couldn’t believe my eyes. Go add this to your tbr, read it immediately and fall in love with this new world Stephanie has written! Over time they learn much more about each other until they each finally reveal that they remembered each other and had crushes. jamie was such a great love interest - i was hooked from the second we got his pov and realized he wasn't grumpy, but rather currently melting into a puddle - and i really enjoyed seeing pippa's development through the story.

There is a subplot with matters relating parental issues that they both resolve in the end in a very real and mature way and for anyone that might concernes, yes i kept crying and ceying bc of the relief and happiness i felt. Not only did I have the best experience beta reading, but the characters were so relatable and realistic while also being so swoony and fluffy. i’m also really looking forward to the second book in this series, because i already know that bantering is gonna be great and i love the characters. ngl it got kinda slow towards the end, but there's no third act break up so i guess that makes up for it.

The dual narration of the chapters is PERFECT for this book, and the voice actors (artists- sorry I’ve never received an audiobook before) were spot on. the characters were likeable and cute together, but it wasn’t any of those characters you’ll remember for the rest of your life, but that’s good too sometimes, they can’t all be nesta archeron's and dante maroni’s. Alas, the publishing industry’s insistence on marketing smutty rom-com books with YA-looking artwork continues, and the first two books in Archer’s new ‘Vancouver Storm’ series are no different: Behind the Net, a grumpy-sunshine love story between a star hockey goalie and his assistant; and its sequel, The Fake Out, with a fake dating scenario between another player and the hockey team’s physical therapist.

I loved hockey romances and I loved the chance to read a hockey romance by one of my favourite authors! Pippa is starting over because of what her ex did, and Jamie is dealing with a lot of personal things off ice with his mom. When Pippa becomes the assistant to her high-school crush, grumpy NHL goalie Jamie Streicher, she's fresh from a toxic relationship. Jamie is a goalie for the Vancouver Storm, he has recently been signed by them to be closer to his mom, who has panic attacks.
