The idea behind their decision to venture into the watchmaking business was the production of high-quality watches bearing a trusty Swiss-made mark, all at an affordable price. In addition, the goal was to make their watches accessible to the broadest possible customer group. Invicta dedicates special attention to their female fans, as well. A vast Angel collection contains many attractive watches in styles and dimensions suitable to sophisticated ladies’ tastes and wrists. Invicta was established in 1837. Translating to “Invincible” in Latin, they were once a prolific watchmaking company. Devastated by the quartz crisis, Invicta was driven to bankruptcy in the 1980s. Given that it’s essentially got the same look as the Submariner, the 1953 is a fantastically versatile watch, debatably more so than the 8926OB. It’s got enough water resistance and a tough enough movement to be worn for years to come, yet is dressy enough for less casual events. Its standard lug widths also allow you to dress the 1953 up and down with NATO, rubber, and leather straps. Mine is the Coke model. It came with a plain, rather small box. I’m ok with that. Takes up less space.

They’re not shy about flaunting their Swiss heritage, even incorporating the Swiss cross into their logo. Though they do produce watches in Switzerland, many of their watches are also produced in Asia.

The matte crown is a bit incongruous with the rest of the watch, but it’s hardly noticeable and easily disregarded. Besides that, the crown is sturdy and easy to use. Case Dimensions

On-wrist it feels a little like a mishmash of a modern diver and a vintage one. They’ve attempted to imitate the original Submariner, to the extent where they even have its release year on the dial, yet have failed to fully encapsulate the essence of a vintage watch. I think we’ve seen other brands such as Timex do a better job of capturing that soul and spirit with their Q Lineup, which may be a factor in their popularity, despite the lower-end specifications. Lume has been applied to the indices, bezel pip, and hour and minute hands. Alas, there’s none on the second hand lollipop. The application is even, though it’s not particularly bright or long lasting.

Corners must be cut at this price point, but it’s no stretch to presume folks would pay a little more for upgraded specs. At the very least, a sapphire crystal upgrade would have been nice. At “only” 48mm of case diameter, while being a part of the formidable collection where most watches measure 50 plus, it’s a difficult task to stand out. However, 17203 Aviator manages to do so with flying colors. Some folks out there couldn’t care less about the brand reputation of their watch, but I believe it’s worth learning about. In the world of watches, you’re buying the brand just as much as you’re buying the product itself. A visionary goal they managed to achieve. Moreover, they have kept nurturing it through all the stages of their more than a century-long history and several ownership changes. Today, working under the name of Invicta Watch Group, their vast range of watch collections feature quartz, mechanical and automatic watches, meeting the needs of a wide variety of trusty customers worldwide.The unguarded crown is faithful to the Rolex and functionally is excellent. Not only does it have plenty of grippy serrations but is perfectly responsive and a pleasure to use during time adjustments and winding. Bracelet Nevertheless, I’d like to highlight some things others haven’t mentioned, in case you’re considering buying one. My aim here isn’t to bash the watch, rather to provide you with the full story, so you can make an informed purchasing decision. It’s a watch that shows Invicta is capable of pulling off restrained designs, and I hope to see more like it in the future. Invicta is also recognizable for a number of successful cooperations with other popular franchises and individuals, such as Star Wars, Marvel, S. Coifman, and Jason Taylor.
