The whisky proved so popular that in late 2012, a second edition, ‘The Journey’, was released. Both editions have resulted in a substantial donation to the Trust’s conservation work in Antarctica. The British National Antarctic Expedition, known as the Discovery expedition after the ship Discovery, was the brainchild of Sir Clements Markham, president of the Royal Geographical Society, and had been many years in preparation. It was led by Robert Falcon Scott, a Royal Navy torpedo lieutenant lately promoted commander, [18] and had objectives that included scientific and geographical discovery. [19]

Endurance departed from South Georgia for the Weddell Sea on 5 December, heading for Vahsel Bay. As the ship moved southward navigating in ice, first-year ice was encountered, which slowed progress. Deep in the Weddell Sea, conditions gradually grew worse until, on 19 January 1915, Endurance became frozen fast in an ice floe. [88] I like this. It’s perfect for the summer, or to introduce someone to whisky. This ranks with the Cutty Sark Prohibition edition. They are not hard work. You can sit with mates and enjoy these blends without concentrating on them. Nose– Soft, elegant & refined. Delicate aromas of crushed apple, pear and fresh pineapple arouse the senses. The spirit is exciting and vibrant with attractive notes of oak shavings that release hints of buttery vanilla, creamy caramel and nutmeg. A whisper of marmalade, cinnamon and even a tease of smoke, ginger and muscovado sugar completes this spectrum of delight. I really wouldn’t like to say! It entirely depends on the conditions, which as we’ve said, are very changeable. But my fingers are certainly crossed for them getting there! None of these enterprises prospered, and his main source of income was his earnings from lecture tours. He still harboured thoughts of returning south, even though in September 1910, having recently moved with his family to Sheringham in Norfolk, he wrote to Emily: "I am never again going South and I have thought it all out and my place is at home now". [70] He had been in discussions with Douglas Mawson about a scientific expedition to the Antarctic coast between Cape Adare and Gaussberg, and had written to the RGS about this in February 1910. Third man factor, refers to the reported situations where an unseen presence such as a "spirit" provided comfort or support during traumatic experiences. Wilson, Edward A. (1975). Diary of the Discovery Expedition. London: Blandford Press. ISBN 0-7137-0431-4. The polar regions are very expensive places to get to, so if you’re spending all that money you might as well go big. On this expedition there’s a huge range of experts, all doing their own bits of research. We’ve got biologists and glaciologists and geologists and meteorologists, and almost all the other ‘-ologists’, out there together, in a place that’s incredibly hard to access, working on things that could make a huge difference to their fields of research. We’re hoping that what comes out of Weddell is an array of extraordinary findings in all sorts of scientific realms. And that’s even before they go looking for Endurance…

The sweetness, fragrance and spice, and the subtle smoke, are all there in the replica. I’m blown away.” The Cape Royds hut sits in an Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA) which means permits are required to remove anything from the area and anything temporarily removed has to be returned. Taste– With a generous strength of 47.3% this gives the spirit plenty of impact on the palate but in a mild warming manner. Harmonious and exhilarating. Whispers of gentle bonfire smoke slowly give way to spicy rich toffee, treacle and pecan nuts. These enticing flavours linger lovingly on the palate but are soon combined by a sensual, complex array of creme brulee, orange rind and freshly baked bread. It is a remarkable tapestry of tantalising taste sensations which truly rewards the palate. Preston, Diana (1997). A First Rate Tragedy: Captain Scott's Antarctic Expeditions. London: Constable & Co. ISBN 0-09-479530-4. In the mouth: it echoes the nose closely: malty, with baked apples, cinnamon. Digestive biscuits. Some grapefruit acidity; and that barley-driven note mingles with light peat; and then gives way to vanilla and pears, and creamy buttermilk. Layers of honey follow, with gentle spices and a nice herbal note. The peat drifts about wonderfully – not dominating, just underscoring that malty core. ConclusionsFor the single malt connoisseurs among you, actually there’s plenty to enjoy, but I can’t help think you’d be a lot happier with the previous releases, which was much more of a special thing. Koehn, Nancy (2017). Forged in Crisis: The Making of Five Courageous Leaders. New York: Scribner. p.75. ISBN 978-1-5011-7444-5.

We all turned out to give three cheers and to take a last look at the place where we had spent so many happy days. The hut was not exactly a palatial residence … but, on the other hand, it had been our home for a year that would always live in our memories…. We watched the little hut fade away in the distance with feelings almost of sadness, and there were few men aboard who did not cherish a hope that some day they would once more live strenuous days under the shadow of mighty Erebus.” I’m just curious to see the state that it’s in now. Although broken up, we think it’s in good condition. But we won’t really know until we get there and see it. Foster, Jonathan. "Experiments with early wireless". The Secret Life of Harry Grindell Matthews. Archived from the original on 22 January 2016 . Retrieved 9 January 2016. Its body-sensation in mouth, when tasted “neat”, to some extent resembles some Inchgower-bottlings, as it does hold a slight oiliness when “neat”. Also this, is something I do find being to this specific bottlings advantage, compared to other bottlings. A very limited edition already sold out, this rare, fine whiskey is sought after by collectors. It will do any whiskey lover’s display cabinet proud but it also may be a sound little financial investment that could return good profits over time.a b UK Retail Price Index inflation figures are based on data from Clark, Gregory (2017). Can you explain the primary objective of The Weddell Sea Expedition, and how the findings might be used?

Nose:-Very sweet so I liked straight off. Vanilla. Caramel. There’s a hint of smoke. Not strong. Hint of baked bread. It is very light on the nose. You can see it will be light from the get go.
