He said: "There is a community of people, the 'Wombles of Spalding' who clear litter in areas throughout the town. Spalding resident Karl Barfoot spent several hours last weekend creating his masterpiece as a tribute to the NHS fundraiser and former British Army Officer. It took around 8 hours to complete, I started at 6.30am and finished around 2.30 in the afternoon." His Facebook post showcasing his handiwork, has gone viral, after being both shared and 'liked' over a thousand times. Read More Related Articles

Karl first started dabbling in street art at the age of 13, continuing for a few years before putting his hobby on hold when his house needed renovating, as well as having a young family.

Opening times

Originally I was thinking of doing Albert Einstein, but then with the passing of Tom, because of what he did for his country and the love for him, I wanted to leave a tribute of the captain. A street artist has created a stunning public graffiti art tribute to the recently departed Captain Sir Tom Moore. A legal area for street art would be an attraction for the town and attract artists from around the country.”

The pair already have nearly 90 signatures after their friend Kay Arnold publicised it on social media. It would be nice to see something different like that in Spalding and a place where artists can work and others can learn from them and enjoy the art.”We have some great street artists here in Spalding and it would be lovely to see all of the graffiti scene's work on display. Captain Tom died last week on, February 2 at the age of one hundred years old. What do you make of this tribute? Let us know in the comments Although hopefully many will be able to see the tribute to Sir Tom, Karl is hoping a more permanent spot can be found in Spalding to showcase more graffiti artwork. Peterborough has one and it’s been a huge attraction for the city, people coming from all over the country to visit the artwork… having something like this in Spalding will attract many big named street artists to come paint here and also be an attraction for the town to the public which will also be bringing more business/customers to the rest of the town whilst they visit. However, Coun Christine Lawton was not in favour of the idea. She said: “I think it’s a dreadful, dreadful idea, where do we draw the boundaries?”
