Description

Peony cages should be installed in early spring when tender new growth first appears from the ground.

No Assembly Required Small = Height 60cm, Top Ring Diameter 50cm & Lower Ring Diameter 30cm Large = Height 60cm, Top Ring Diameter 60cm & Lower Ring Diameter 40cm In late spring, peonies erupt all over the city. It seems that every second house has one in the garden, and it’s no wonder; their blooms are one of the biggest and most stunning to arrive in the spring. Here’s what you’ll need to make homemade plant supports for peonies, and the step by step instructions for assembly. If we were just supporting the peony bush then the ring would be sufficient but supporting the big blousy flowers takes a little more added to the top ring of the cage. The most sustainable and eco-friendly solutions are those using natural or reclaimed materials, which you may already have lying around. If the support is too small, you could damage the peony roots when trying to push the cage legs into the ground. I like these peony support rings

Another way to support peonies is with plant support hoops, which completely encircle a peony clump and provide it with some support. Trim your peonies after they’re done blooming to remove the dead flowers, and give the plants a nice shape for the summer. Herbaceous peonies usually require some kind of support, while intersectional and shrub-like tree peonies can often manage without it. Peonies flop over due to their large and heavy flowers on top of long stems. The stems aren’t always flexible enough to support the full weight of the large bloom.

I would’ve staked the one at the very end (right side of the photo), but it’s too big for the supports I used. It may be time to divide that peony bush. Supports may not always be essential, and you may be able to get away without them if you are growing shorter cultivars or are growing them in a particularly sheltered spot. No assembly required — You don’t have to worry about fiddling with spanners or screws. Your peony cage will arrive as a solid piece of raw or plastic-coated steel. This year, I am so excited to add another peony, this one a gorgeous hot pink color … Edulis Superba.

You will also have to consider the material your cage is made from; it should be sturdy enough to last an entire growing season and protect your blossoms from any damage. When to Install Peony Cages Getting into the habit of adding your peony plant supports before your plant even start to grow will make it much easier to keep the flowers from flopping every spring. Available in two heights — How much verticality do you want to add to your garden? Choose between a 24” or 36” model. Some people like to use wire tomato cages, but I prefer to use peony cages to support my peonies. Using Peony Cages

The best peony supports for the garden

In early spring, when peony shoots begin to pop through the ground, I make sure to get my peony support rings into the ground so my peonies will have a shoulder to lean on when the weight from their giant blooms begin to emerge. Delivery is Mainland UK and excludes The Highlands and Isle of Wight, Isle of man and Channel Islands.

Buy a single cage or a pair — Create a single centrepiece or bookmark your garden with a choice of one or two peony cages.A signature will be required upon delivery unless we have authorisation from you that the goods can be left. There are many types of supports but I like peony grids. They come in a few different sizes so choose the one right for your size shrub.
