After studying at the University of East Anglia, Charlie formed a band, The Higsons. He then became a decorator before turning to the world of television and going into partnership with his friend Paul Whitehouse. Their successes included 'Saturday Live', the 'Harry Enfield Television Programme', 'The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer', 'Shooting Stars', 'Randall and Hopkirk, Deceased', the film 'Suite 16', 'Swiss Toni' and 'The Fast Show'. SilverFin is the first novel in the Young Bond series that depicts Ian Fleming's superspy James Bond as a teenager in the 1930s. It was written by Charlie Higson and released in the United Kingdom on March 3, 2005 by Puffin Books in conjunction with a large marketing campaign; a Canadian release of the same edition occurred in late March. The United States edition, which was slightly edited for content, was released on April 27, 2005 by Miramax Books. Silverfin, a Level 1 Reader, is A1 in the CEFR framework. Short sentences contain a maximum of two clauses, introducing the past simple tense and some simple modals, adverbs and gerunds. Illustrations support the text throughout, and many titles at this level are graphic novels. As I said earlier this book gets into the mystery too late but you still don't want to put it down, you want to keep reading even though it is not that exiting initially. Some kids will enjoy Alex Rider more but overall it is a good book with lovable characters. I liked this book and I hope you will too. OK, I am positive that if my uncle did not gift me this novel through the post, I would have surely not read it. Any book about James Bond as a child would not have placed an interesting thought in my mind.Because Fleming never explicitly said when James Bond was born, Ian Fleming Publications and Charlie Higson chose the year 1920 as his birth year. SilverFin takes place in 1933. Lord Hellebore arrives at Eton to fund and stage a three-part athletic tournament, which he intends his son, George, to win. The competition has three heats: swimming, running, and shooting. Lord Hellebore helps George cheat in various events, particularly the foot race, where he plans shortcuts for his son. James, noticing that George has an alternate route, follows him, using his speed to overtake him and win the race. George tries to trip James but fails. Ultimately, Andrew Carlton, another student is the winner of the tournament, which deeply disappoints Lord Hellebore. o APA citation: Higgson, H. & Walker, K. (2008). A special signed limited edition hardcover was released exclusively at Waterstone's Bookstores in the UK on October 6, 2005.

During a scene at a circus the announcer presents "The Mighty Donovan". "The Mighty O'Donovan" is Donovan "Red" Grant's father, referenced in From Russia with Love. I wouldn't even say the plot is particularly Bond-like. The mystery that unfolds is pretty out there, belonging more in the Hellboy universe than the Bond pantheon. There are also no real twists or surprises, no late-game reveals. It just kind of... moves forward.Fleming: "The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning" Higson: "The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning." The Young Bond books have, to date, sold over a million copies in the UK and been translated into 24 different languages. The Young Bond titles are included in a recent list of books complied by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the School Libraries Association to encourage school boys to read (www.boysintobooks.co.uk). A graphic novel adaptation of SilverFin written by Charlie Higson and illustrated by artist Kev Walker was released by Puffin Books in the UK on 2 October 2008 [2] and by Disney Hyperion in the U.S. on 18 May 2010. [3] See also [ edit ] Higson was educated at Sevenoaks School and at the University of East Anglia (where his brother has taught since 1986 and is now a professor of film studies) where he met Paul Whitehouse, David Cummings and Terry Edwards. Higson, Cummings and Edwards formed the band The Higsons of which Higson was the lead singer from 1980 to 1986. They released two singles on the Specials' 2-Tone label. Higson then became a plasterer before he turned to writing for Harry Enfield with Paul Whitehouse and performing comedy. He came to public attention as one of the main writers and performers of the BBC Two sketch show The Fast Show (1994-2000). He worked with Whitehouse on the radio comedy Down the Line and is to work with him again on a television project, designed to be a spoof of celebrity travel programmes.[1:]

Pan’s Labyrinth was amazing. Special effects and fantasy are used for more than just pretty pictures. In 2004, it was announced that Higson would pen a series of James Bond novels, aimed at younger readers and concentrating on the character's school-days at Eton. Higson was himself educated at Sevenoaks School where he was a contemporary of Jonathan Evans, current Director General of MI5. The first novel, SilverFin, was released on 3 March 2005 in the UK and on 27 April 2005 in the U.S. A second novel, Blood Fever, was released on 5 January 2006 in the UK and 1 June in the U.S. The third novel, Double or Die, was published on 4 January 2007 having had its title announced the day before. The next, Hurricane Gold, came out in hardcover in the UK in September 2007.[3:]In this year he also made a debut performance on the panel show QI. His final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, was released in hardcover in the UK on the 3 September 2008.[4:] On Loch SilverFin in Scotland, a bad man lives in a castle with his son. James Bond and his new friend Red Kelly go to the castle. They must find Red's missing cousin, Alfie. But what do they find in the castle? Do they find Alfie, or is it too late? THe story is very easy to follow, bully at school has a evil dad, with a slightly more evil mad scientist and a nefarious plot to rule the world. Bond arrives, gets the girl and saves the world but doesn't have a martini, shaken but not stirred. One thing about this category, is that it's interesting to view the perspective of the illustrator, how they saw the image of the book in their mind, although I can't mark them down if the tree I imagined had brown leaves instead of dark green leaves, as I have not read the actual book. It is, however, when James is in Scotland for the rest of book, at the remote home of his Aunt Charmian and Uncle Max, that his first great adventure, and mystery to solve, truly takes shape. A local Laird, in his ominous castle nearby, is conducting horrific scientific experiments that prove he is very mad indeed and a threat to society who must be defeated. Before this excitement is over, James has a date with some killer eels. My favorite quote from this book is the final quote as it teaches you a moral, the quote and moral is "Don't ever be a spy" The reason I admire this quote is because at around the middle of the novel, Bond's uncle was explaining how he was beaten and tortured by German Soldiers then said. "Don't ever be a spy". So once James Bond had experienced his bit of being a spy he agreed with his uncle and it wrapped up the novel nicely. They destroy the other vehicles and break through the gates to find that they are being followed by Hellebore and his men. They abandon the lorry on a farm and Red hides while James runs away toward town before turning toward the one place Hellebore wouldn't look: the castle. However, the Laird catches up and slashes James' face with a horse crop. James spits in his eye before Wilder rides in on Martini to rescue him. They ride into the forest surrounding the estate, where George finds them and despite James' misgivings, proceeds to help them destroy his father's laboratory.

The Bond girl in this book is Wilder Lawless, a girl who owns a horse called Martini. This girl helps James and 'Red' Kelly (named on account of his red hair) figure out why Kelly's cousin was killed and she helps them to defeat Lord Hellebore. In this book James learns to drive, taught by his Uncle Max, who, while he is away at Lord Hellebore's castle sadly dies. His Aunt Charmain who thinks James and Kelly are away on a camping trip tells James this as he wakes up from his coma. Bond travels to Scotland to visit his aunt and dying uncle. Along the way, he meets a boy named Jimmy who is searching for his missing cousin, and James offers his help. In Scotland, his uncle warns him—based on personal experience—never to become a spy. Ironically, James and his new friend, Jimmy, soon stumble upon Hellebore’s mysterious castle while searching for the missing cousin. They investigate and uncover some frightening clues about Hellebore's true self. The two boys also find that George has realized his father’s treachery and wants to put a stop to it. Together, they meet Hellebore face-to-face, discover that he is more of a monster than they imagined, and put up a vicious fight. He worked as producer, writer, director and occasional guest star on Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) from 2000 to 2001. Subsequent television work has included writing and starring in BBC Three's Fast Show spin-off sitcom Swiss Toni. He is currently starring in Tittybangbang series 3 on BBC Three and has appeared as a panellist on QI. (hehe jadi curhat) Charlie Higson is a well-known writer of screenplays and novels, including the phenomenally successful Young Bond series. He is also a performer and co-creator of 'The Fast Show' and Radio Four's award-winning 'Down the Line' series - recently made into a popular BBC2 sketch show, 'Bellamy's People'. Charlie is a big fan of horror films and is now hoping to give a great many children sleepless nights with his The Enemy series. I haven't read a lot of graphic novels, certainly no expert in artistic creativity, but I must admit that i really enjoyed this one. It made a difference reading a young James bond story rather than a manga style one with rape, murder and return from the dead vengeance. Anyway, James Bond ini gak punya orang tua lagi, keduanya meninggal waktu mendaki gunung. Jadi dia tinggal ama tantenya. James Bond mengetahui kalo pamannya ternyata seorang mata-mata dulunya. Jadi tau dong darah spy itu nurun dari mana? Ternyata bukan dari ayahnya.
