It would only be years later when Malcolm found out what truly happened to her. Heartbroken by Annabel’s murder, Malcolm became obsessed with raising her from the dead. No, not events. Mistakes. Errors. Sins. It was a record of any doing of the Herondales and Lightwoods that had caused what her father considered problems; anything that could be characterized as irresponsible or ill-considered was noted here. When she’d first awakened, here in the strange bed that smelled like old straw, she’d heard a voice—Jesse’s voice—and she had tried to call out, to let him know she was conscious. But before she could, exhaustion had swept over her like a cold gray wave. An exhaustion she had never felt before, or even imagined, deep as a knife wound. Her fingertip grip on alertness had slipped, tumbling her into the darkness of her own mind, where time swayed and lurched like a ship in a storm, and she could hardly tell whether she was awake or asleep.

She felt the ache inside her like pain, the loss of Christopher. Who had understood her, and not judged her.” However, this is a new version of him, and he tells Jem that he no longer has any interest in the Herondales. James Herondale — the man Cordelia is married to and grandson of the Prince of Hell Belial who struggles with his demonic abilities, and only recently realized his true feelings for Cordelia and Grace. why are you so stupid and so frustrating, and why do i think about you all the time? why do i have to think about you when i get up and when i go to sleep and when i brush my teeth and right now? why did you kiss me in the sanctuary if you didn’t want to be with me? is it that you don’t want to tell anyone? it’s very annoying. One thing I wasn’t expecting was Christopher’s death. I see how it made sense with having a delay in creating the fire notes and adding a bit of suspense to the book. However, Christopher was so kind and one of the loveliest characters in the book. He had a big heart. I mean, he died saving Cordelia. It hurt.

Games

Matthew finally tells his parents about the potion he bought from the Shadow Market that causes the death of his mother’s unborn baby.

A woman seated at a nearby café, wearing a hat laden with ostrich plumes and silk roses, glanced from Matthew to Cordelia and smiled—approving, Cordelia assumed, of young love. Months ago, Cordelia would have blushed; now she simply smiled. What did it matter if people thought the wrong things about her? Any girl would be happy to have Matthew as a suitor, so let passersby imagine whatever they wanted. That was how Matthew managed things, after all—not caring at all what others thought, simply being himself, and it was astonishing how it allowed him to move easily through the world. It had been a gift from James. Cordelia knew she should take it off, but she was not ready yet. Somehow it seemed a gesture more final than the slashing through of her marriage rune. The action in the last half was very predictable. Except for Christohper's death. That surprised me. I think Matthew was supposed to die in this book. There were so many hints that he would die. I read in an interview that this book was supposed to have a tragic ending. But Clare changed it due to the pandemic situation. Matthew dying would have made more sense than Christopher. But I'm glad. Despite his faults, I still like Matthew a lot.Alastair’s character development might have been the best character delevopment. I like how he grew into himself and let go of a lot of things. I liked who he was at the end. It was very lovely to watch. (I was reviewing this and I realised I said watch rather than read. That’s because I see the stories in my head like I’m watching it 🙂 ) Her mother sighed. “Ari,” she said, “you’ve grown up to be such a lovely girl. I will miss you so, when some fine man chooses you, and you go off to be married.” Matthew laughed, but Cordelia couldn’t help but wonder: journeying into the heart of Hell together? What on earth did he mean? I can’t say it all now,” James said, and felt his heartbeat skip: for the first time he had admitted there was something to say. “Not if we’re going to find Lucie—” I think the one word that can aptly describe this book is underwhelming. Books have no right to be this underwhelming. Especially, a highly anticipated ending book of a trilogy.

i loved the way matthew’s alcoholism was dealt with, though! his dependency was shown so very clearly and so were his steps taken to overcome that and i loved the portrayal of that. i just also wanna clarify that i don’t blame matthew for any part of the drama between cordelia and james, bc that was between them alone. it wasn’t matthew’s fault he ended up falling in love with her. 🤧 Oh boy did this book make me feel many things. The way my thoughts on some stuff did a huge flip... and lets just say mostly bad. Belial, for whatever reason, wants to be the King of England, so he takes his new bod out for a stroll to Westminster Abbey to raise an Arch Bishop from the dead. I think everything was wrapped up a little too bit nicely, but with all that’s been happening, I’ll take it with minimal complaints, to be honest.

Or, perhaps more accurately, the theft of a boy’s life and future. Young orphan Kellian could never have expected a grand life in the vibrant port city of Castellane if fate had not intervened, but fate did. At the tender age of 8, he is removed from his orphanage and offered a unique position: to become Sword Catcher to Conor Aurelian, Prince of Castellane and heir to its throne. Kel will be raised in luxury in the palace alongside Conor, trained and educated as befits a royal, and given every advantage in life–with one notable exception: His life will never be his own again. Bespelled to resemble Conor, Kel essentially becomes Conor for any occasions where the prince might be in danger, or at which he would rather not put in an appearance. He is Conor’s double, his shadow self, tied forever to a person he both loves and resents–and from whom he might never be free. Cordelia also realizes that when Lilith tells her that Cortana can both heal and destroy if she uses the blade to stab James, it would inflict Belial with his third mortal wound.

At first, the pair will have increased power with runes, more so than typical parabatai that even fatal wounds are healed with their iratze. T hey will have an almost telepathic ability between one another, as well as an empathetic ability to feel what the other is feeling. I ncluding the other’s injuries as if they are their own, and they will have the capability to do things no other Nephilim could do. Magnus glanced between James and Will. His hand was on James’s shoulder, heavy with its weight of rings. He said, “You cried out another name too. And a word. One that makes me quite nervous.” We are so thrilled to present to you the… ‘Chain of Thorns’ Exclusive Edition, brought to you in collaboration with @cassieclare1and @walkerbooksya!But Grace, I have never blamed you for your mother before. I will not start now. She was vile. But you are not vile. You have done wrong, but you are trying to make it right. And such trying is not easy.” The first 50% of this book was so bad that I considered dnfing and giving it a one-star rating. I admit that it got better during the last 30%. That's the only reason it's getting two stars from me. The Fairchild family tree is not complete compared to some of the other families listed in the series. you cannot hurt yourself, daisy. you must not. hate me, hit me, do anything you want to me. cut up my suits and set fire to my books. tear my heart into pieces, scatter them across england. but do not harm yourself.” Belial — a Prince of Hell who is working together with Tatiana to destroy London and everyone James loves.
