He wasn't the only one, thought Oswald wryly as he took in his brother's discomfiture. Mason had always been useless at any talk of feelings or emotions. Oswald rolled his eyes and took pity on him. “I'll speak to Linnet, shall I?”

You're not returning to court so soon?” asked Mason with a heavy frown. “Our Father has not been buried for more than a sennight.” I admit that I didn't like Oswald at the beginning because of his attitude to Fenella. He was especially harsh towards her, and I didn't like how he took advantage of Fenella's situation. You must not worry about your bachelor brother-in-law,” he told her lightly. “I am a very dull fellow and do all of my best work from behind a desk.” I’m also sad that this book didn’t have an epilogue. I’m glad we get glimpses of this couple in future books, but I still want more! Safety details… Hero has been celibate 10 years, heroine celibate 2. Heroine was married to OM who she hasn’t seen in 2 years when he requests a divorce from her. Heroine is cheated on by her first husband. No cheating between H/h. No major OW drama, although some jealousy. OM drama from the ex husband but it’s mostly just jealousy too. No scenes with OM/OW. This is technically a second chance romance since they were betrothed as children. I am hoping to strike Gold with Roland, similar to the way I did with Mason. Especially because I adored Roland in both the books. I hope he’s still just as immature, and churlish, and is painfully brought to his knees by Eden.

You know, I'm not one for liking books where the hero treats the heroine badly. That's not the best description for this series though. Their words are cutting and they start out selfish, but their actions are protective and they are very jealous and possessive. It's a combination that you wouldn't think mix and yet the author pulls it off. Fenella and Oswald were betrothed when he was 19 and she was 12. She loved him with a massive school-girl crush. But then Oswald went to war and his father ended the betrothal in favour of other more lucrative betrothals for his oldest son. Fenella and Oswald grew up together as neighbors, and he was her first love. She wrote him poems, made detailed tapestries she gifted to him, and then he disappeared after a horrific battle when he was only 21. Fenella comes to him for help with her marriage/divorce issues, Oswald decides he will keep her. Now our sweet, ingenuous and plump h begins as a married woman on the verge of being divorced by her pompous ass husband of 8 years. She rushes to court with a vague idea of stopping the divorce by appealing to the H -her once upon a time fiancé/secret love. Now, instead of stopping the divorce, the H eggs on the divorce because?!The heroine and hero were such a poor match, I could literally see them with anyone else but each other. Oswald smiled as he watched her fussily arrange Archie on her lap. “No doubt,” he agreed. He had a suspicion it was not Cuthbert she wanted to discuss with him. Astonishingly, this was also true. Despite the fact that Linnet had first presented him with two grand-daughters instead of the longed-for grandson, he had swiftly recovered from the disappointment and come to see the baby girls as blessings and the twin-apples of his eye. Archie's arrival six months ago had sealed Linnet's position as his favorite female in the whole world. It wasn't really surprising that he had wanted her to be the one to hold his hand at the very end. Her eyes were bright with concern. He had been quite wrong about their color, he noticed distractedly. Up close you could see they were more of a deep amber color than brown. Her mouth, he chose not to dwell on for it was wide and pink, the bottom lip disturbingly plump. Oswald’s nostrils flared as he imagined her sat on his lap clad in nothing but a transparent shift. He stood up jerkily from the table. “I find I am tired. No,” he said as she came to her feet. “You do not have to rush to join me.” This second Vawdrey Brothers book was surprisingly good. The hero, Oswald, was far more complex and not as beta as he comes across in the first book. Oswald Vawdrey was a revelation.
