Six days ago, Joe Lynch was a happily married man, a devoted father, and a respected teacher living in a well-to-do London suburb. Before Joe confronted the other man in an altercation where he left him for dead, bleeding and unconscious.

The world of technology and social media can be a dangerous place and is a great setting for the biggest LIES of all in T. M. Logan's work of mysterious domestic unrest. Joe's wife, Mel, admits the affair and even though she says she is very sorry for all that has happened, Joe doesn not trust her anymore. He wonders if she plays a part in all that is going on. He can trust no one, as his friends abandon him due to his connection to what has happened and he is suspended from his job. The police have a growing pile of evidence against him and Joe realizes that he's going to have to find a way to bring Ben out in the open, proving that Joe hasn't killed Ben. Logan died in 1914 at his apartment in New York City, New York, due to a "complication of diseases." His body was buried in Hollywood Cemetery, located in Richmond, Virginia, following a funeral on August 12. [2] See also [ edit ] But Kate has a secret: her husband is having an affair. And a week away might just be the perfect opportunity to get the proof she needs - to catch him in the act once and for all. Because she suspects the other woman is one of her two best friends.Have you ever dropped in unexpectedly on your spouse, when and where they least expected to see you? Joe Lynch is just an ordinary happily-married man - until one split-second decision throws his life into crisis. I went into this book initially expecting it to be an “edge-of-your-seat” thriller and admittedly, the first couple chapters did pique my curiosity. However the story slowed considerably and started to drag quite a bit in the middle, to the point that by the time I got to the “twist” at the end, it felt anti-climactic (though it probably didn’t help that I already figured out most of the ending already by then so the surprise element wasn’t there). I also felt like I had to suspend disbelief a bit too much throughout the story – yes, the title of the book is Lies and there are plenty of them in the story, but it seemed like only the main character Joe was the one constantly being lied to….he came across as a little too naïve and clueless until the end when he suddenly figured everything out, which seemed just too implausible to me. Joe’s reaction to things that happen in the story also felt a little off, emotionless almost, which made it hard for me to connect with that character (technically all the characters to be honest), though I think this has to do more with Joe also narrating the story from his own first person point of view. I guess I’m just not a fan of fictional stories that are told in 1st person because the viewpoint is so limited and unless the author is trying to achieve a particular purpose with the story, it’s a skill that I feel is hard to get right. The story. It is deceiving. It is not really about what it says it is about. Or for a short time it is. Friends on vacation. Kate, one of the friends, finds hubs is cheating with one of her friends who is also on the vacation..but which one?

Lies: From the million-copy Sunday Times bestselling author

This would have driven me crazy and it was doing the same to Kate since she opted not to confront Sean. The vacation devolves into suspicion and intense scrutiny of every move her friends make, especially when interacting with Sean as she tries to figure out the who. I could identify with Kate’s paranoia and it gets even more complicated by her daughter’s odd behavior where she’s clearly weighed down by something. Everything takes on more meaning and suspicion shifts to all of the friends at some point. Kate suspects that her husband is having an affair with one of her friends and plans to find out which one by spying on them. It's the evening drive home from work, a route Joe Lynch has taken a hundred times with his young son. But when he unexpectedly sees his wife's car ahead of them, he decides to follow her - and ends up witnessing her secret rendezvous with another man. The encounter will tear two families apart and leave an innocent man set up to take the fall for a murder.

Joe soon discovers that the barb of his wife's betrayal is just the beginning of what he's about to face in the following days to come. Joe is an incredible character. He has so much love to give and such a pure heart. Even when faced with a mountain of lies, Joe wants to believe the best in Mel. Joe is almost too good for the outside world. He always tries to do what is right. When he lies, it is because he truly thinks he is protecting someone he loves. And this pureness of heart is exactly why Joe can be lied to so easily. To me, it did not matter because the women seemed bland and almost were interchangeable. But, more than that, the book is REALLY more about the kids. This a a plot devise I LOATHE. I really find no joy in reading about sibling arguments when I think I am getting a mystery set in an exotic local about friends. I was REALLY let down. Pissed even. The fabric of our lives can seem so thin when it is suddenly pulled out from under us, never more so than when it has been woven with lies, one overlapping another. This was a fast read that will irritate you at times, has characters that are not all that likable, have secrets, have serious flaws, and have an annoying child or two. Ever hear the adage "With friends like these."? Vacationing together can either make or break a relationship...what will happen here?
