Description

Inspired by the initial adventure of the company’s founding fathers, Georges Hermann Mumm tirelessly travelled the globe, across Europe and as far away as Australia and New Zealand to market his champagnes. Already at the turn of the twentieth century, the company counted some twenty subsidiaries in the world’s main markets, including the United States, Russia and Canada, but also Brazil and Peru. Georges Hermann Mumm’s greatest creation was certainly the famous “Cordon Rouge”, first released in 1875. Almost two centuries later, Georges Hermann Mumm’s vision continues to guide the House’s philosophy and production of exceptional champagnes. This vision is reflected in a profound attachment to the vineyard, respect for traditional craftsmanship and an innovative approach, all guarantees of the excellence of its wines. A vision that defines the unique style of Mumm champagne. The chapel is decorated with frescos inspired by oriental art. The chapel was consecrated on 1 October 1966 and handed over to the City of Reims on 18 October 1966. The chapel was designated an historic monument in 1992. Stretching over 30,000 hectares, the Champagne region benefits from a unique microclimate, marked by severe frosts during winter and plenty of sunshine in summer. These specific characteristics help preserve the finesse of the grapes and are propitious to optimal ripening. They also determine the personality of Mumm wines and define their aromatic complexity. The nature of this terroir, the richness of its subsoils and its specific microclimate, coupled with the House’s expertise, help produce unique wines, year after year. When all of these factors are combined to produce an exceptional vintage, the Cellar Master may decide to compose their blend exclusively from wines of the same vintage. The final blends are then placed in the cellar for a minimum of three years to fully express their aromas. These remarkable vintages will leave their mark on the history of the Mumm Champagne House.

With a legacy of almost two centuries behind it - the House of G.H. MUMM, established in 1827, still aspires to the original aims of the great Georges Hermann Mumm, one of the father figures of the House. His passion was to achieve the highest possible quality for G.H. MUMM champagnes: time after time he was heard to say "Only the Best". Discover all the secrets of champagne in a journey through the intimate setting of Mumm’s cellars in Reims. The result of 70 years’ work, dug into the Reims chalk subsoil, the cellars are home to all of Mumm’s champagnes, from the newest additions to the oldest creations that mark the history of the House. Protected from light and heat, it is in this 25 km labyrinth of underground tunnels that the champagnes and still wines develop, a treasure trove carefully watched over by the House’s Cellar Master…

Nearly two centuries after it was established, Georges Hermann Mumm’s vision continues to steer the House’s philosophy and the production of outstanding champagnes. This is reflected in Mumm’s strong attachment to the vineyards, respect for traditional expertise, and an innovative spirit, which guarantees the excellence of its wines. This vision defines the unique style of Mumm champagnes.

It is a relationship that has been nurtured over the years, as evidenced by the bottles produced by Mumm in the 19th century, personalised for leading restaurants and hotels. Even at that time, Mumm’s champagnes were regularly mentioned in publications featuring the views of leading arbiters of taste, which included the menus of receptions attended by society’s crème de la crème. The brand also maintained excellent relationships with the period’s prominent professional gourmet associations. The House’s legendary cuvées stand as a testimony to their era while reflecting their terroir. Thanks to its lively, intense flavours and capricious weather conditions, Mumm Millésimé 2012 was marked by severe springtime frost and heavy rainfall, followed by cool, wet weather in June during flowering and a particularly hot end to summer. All of these conditions resulted in yields that were low but of exceptional quality. The resulting wines are intense and superbly well-balanced, with the Pinot Noir contributing aromas of white fruit and citrus, combined with the roundness and voluptuousness of Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. In 1875, he decided to decorate each of his bottles with the prizedCordon Rougeor red sash of the Légion d'Honneur, the highest French civilian distinction, created by Napoleon I. Over and above the symbol of excellence that it represents, the Cordon Rouge embodies the true spirit that drives the House: the quest for perfection, a spirit of adventure and panache. Foujita also gave G.H. Mumm a fresco depicting The Virgin in the Vines. The rose featured in the painting became the cuvée's emblem and appears on the metallic cap on top of the cork of the rose Champagne.

Among the crus to stand out in recent decades, the 1995, 2006 and 2009 vintage champagnes are timeless cuvées, which are highly sought-after by connoisseurs. In November 2016, G.H. Mumm announced the appointment of eight-time Olympic gold medallist sprinter Usain Bolt as its "CEO" (Chief Entertainment Officer) to feature in a multi-media promotional campaign. [ citation needed] Since 1876, the iconic cuvee with its bold red sash signals the start of a memorable moment: good times with good friends. Blended from a minimum of 100 crus, Mumm Cordon Rouge expresses the rich diversity of Champagne’s terroirs, always in the fresh, vibrant style that is the signature of Pinot Noir, the House’s emblematic grape. This case reflects Mumm’s philosophy, which has nurtured both tradition and innovation ever since it was established. It takes on an elegant pink shade for the Mumm Le Rosé cuvée. This colour is reminiscent of the champagne itself and calls to mind its fresh overtones of red fruit , strawberry and redcurrant. From the royal tables of European leaders to space exploration, the iconic red sash that adorns the Mumm champagne bottles symbolises remarkable expertise and the never-ending quest for innovation, which perpetuates the House’s emblematic motto: “Only the best”.

Mumm has decided to celebrate this heritage with a champagne gift set collection, reinventing the art and pleasure of giving. Presented in an elegant case, these outstanding gifts will delight refined palates at new year’s celebrations, birthdays or any other special occasion. Decorated with a pink sash, the Mumm Grand Cordon Rosé gift set is guaranteed to please fans of expressive champagnes. A wine with intense fruity aromas, blended from more than 100 different crus and still red wines that strengthen its aromatic powerIn 1957, René Lalou, President of Maison Mumm, was looking for a symbol to reinforce the image of its champagne rosé. An avid art collector, he asked Foujita to work on an idea, which the artist presented in the form of a watercolour. “Léonard Foujita’s Rose” had just been born. It was founded by three brothers: Jacobus, Gottlieb and Phillip Mumm, German winemakers from the Rhine valley, along with G. Heuser and Friedrich Giesler on March 1, 1827, as P. A. Mumm Giesler et Co. P.A. were the initials of the Mumms' father, Peter Arnold Mumm, a successful wine merchant from Solingen. Mumm's label is famous for its red ribbon ( Cordon Rouge), patterned after and resembling the red sash of the Grand Cross ( Grand-croix)—formerly called Grand Ribbon ( Grand cordon)—the highest level of the French Legion of Honour. Thanks to their delicate fruity flavours, the Mumm Le Rosé and Mumm Grand Cordon Rosé cuvées highlight the Cellar Master’s art of blending and the desire to create a new tasting experience. Mumm’s 100% Grand Cru champagnes, RSRV Blanc de Blancs and RSRV Blanc de Noirs showcase the finest vineyard plots and the excellence of their grape varieties. Praised for its elegance and freshness, the RSRV Blanc de Blancs cuvée is the quintessential Cramant Chardonnay. A rare cuvée, RSRV Blanc de Noirs is made from Verzenay Pinot Noir, grown in Mumm’s historic terroir. The resulting champagnes boast exceptional aromatic complexity. The French confiscated all of the Mumm's property, although they had lived in Champagne for almost a century before World War I, because they had never become French citizens.

First impression: a sensation of freshness, with rounded, delectable notes. Juicy scents of succulent white and yellow fruits entice, with hints of lychee, pineapple, praline. Appetizing aromas of pastry – yeast, brioche – heighten the anticipation.

Mumm’s 100% Grand Cru champagnes, RSRV Blanc de Blancs and RSRV Blanc de Noirs, express the best of the House’s vineyard and the nobility of these grape varieties. Praised for its elegance and freshness, the RSRV Blanc de Blancs reflects the very essence of Chardonnay from Cramant. The rare cuvée RSRV Blanc de Noirs is produced from Pinot Noir grown in Verzenay, the historic Mumm terroir. It reveals a champagne with incredible aromatic richness and beautiful complexity. Mumm Cordon Rouge is a symbol of the House’s expertise and the avant-garde spirit it has nurtured for nearly 200 years. This emblematic cuvée is now set within a red and gold case bearing the MUMM name in a new, resolutely modern graphic design.
