The Max has 200 ANSI-lumens just like the Capsule II. That means if you’re outdoors, you’ll want to start using the projector at dusk. When you’re inside, just find a somewhat dark room.

Anker Nebula Capsule Max Review | Trusted Reviews

The audio is surprisingly good, especially when you consider that the Capsule Max — and the Capsule II — is the size of a pint glass. These are all fair trade-offs, but on the darker mode it means that you really need a darker room to watch in or you have to put up with a smaller picture. When looking at the Nebula Capsule Max you wouldn’t say that it is a projector: it looks more like a fancy Bluetooth speaker. In fact it is a 150 × 80 mm (it is compact!) aluminium and plastic can with holes all around the lateral surface and controls on top. Design isn’t anything special, yet its simplicity makes it kinda attractive. It is built reasonably well, with no apparent flaws. The 737 g weight is also low enough for it to be portable without issues. You really do need a dark setting to get a bright picture though. Trying this in daylight or with curtains drawn in the daytime, will definitely be affected by ambient light coming into the van, so don't expect the 100 ANSI lumen LED buld to give you a brilliant picture in anything less than darkness.

Turning the lights up shows how little luminance there is to play with here. Expect to lose plenty of the action whenever there’s ambient lighting. That’s not a big problem if you’re looking at taking the Capsule II out camping in the countryside, but unless your garden is extremely dark, you might struggle with outdoor cinema use. Sound

Thanks to these advancements in technology, portable projectors are increasingly popular and reaching lower price points which further help their popularity. Let’s see then how the midrange Capsule Max (the manufacturer’s top product, actually) performs. Travel Tech We’ve tested out dozens of products over the last few years to bring you review of gadgets to take on the move.Although the Nebula Capsule Max offers a “speaker mode”, which allows one to use it as a speaker, it offers limited audio quality: bass is neither powerful nor very deep and there’s definitely a “boxy” ring to it. Voices have decent enough timbre and there’s good clarity even in action films. Using an external speaker, even a small and portable one such as the SoundCore Flare+ or the Creative iRoar Go, delivers much better results than using the embedded one. That’s absolutely understandable though, and the Capsule Max is indeed decent for watching films. If you are planning to go bigger, then expect a more pixellated effect and lower brightness. This thing is not a 240 volt 3000 ANSI lumen home projectore. I traveled to an indoor event recently in which I needed to project in a lit room, and the brightness was not quite adequate for those conditions. I ended up using my old Dell 2400MP because it was so much brighter in that setting. The Max capsule is noticeably brighter than the Mini, but still not nearly as bright as a less compact but much brighter older model desktop projector. The main body consists of a perforated grill, designed one part for airflow and another to allow sound out. The speaker isn’t just for audio that accompanies the projected image, it can be used on its own as a Bluetooth speaker. And certain apps on the Capsule Max’s software such as Plex or Hulu had a gauzy overlay on the picture.

Navigating Android TV here works a treat, especially with the included remote control. The interface shows apps as a series of tiles to be scrolled through, which each app row throwing up recommended viewing content based on what you’ve watched previously. It moves smoothly, and the ability to jump straight into YouTube programming or buy a Google Play Movies title is incredibly handy.Grabbing one of the best portable projectors is a giddying prospect for most cinephiles who’ve spent the last few years cooped up at home. It’s all well and good owning a big telly to stream on, but we all know the perils of attempting to move expensive tech around the home and the modern man needs the flexibility to host a garden watch party or to bring over a massive screen to a family gathering should he need to. This would be like passing a waterfall through a narrower gap below so the water in the narrower gap was force to move faster. The contrast ratio is how well your projector manages light and dark images on-screen, highlighting the difference between shadows and bright lights together so you get that sharpness in your shows. You want this ratio to be as wide as possible so you don’t lose clarity if you move it out of a dark room. The quality of the lamp will affect the contrast ratio, and in most cases, it will be fine to enjoy movies outdoors in everything but direct sunlight or perhaps an evening movie as the sun fades. The Maximum Android Experience: The Capsule Max offers better memory and computing power by having 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM working hand-in-hand with its Octacore Processor. Additionally, Android TV is a limited-service further throttled by Chromecast-style screen mirroring compared to the full Android 8.1 experience offered by the Max. Furthermore, Chromecast doesn’t support Netflix content. Things look smoother at standard definition as we watch Minority Report on DVD, even as Tom Cruise waves his arms about at the famous gesture UI. The details on the actor’s face are quite impressive too –his stubble is clear and there are no distracting artefacts.

Nebula UK | Capsule Max | Mini Portable Movie Projector

While all of this sounds reasonable, it’s worth noting that the Anker Nebula Capsule II costs pretty much the same as both the Nebula Solar Portable and the Nebula Mars II Pro portable projectors. These two other machines have similar features but offer far more in the way of luminance (400 and 500 ANSI-lumens respectively). On top of that, the Mars II’s sound system is even beefier (2x 10W) and the resolution on the Solar goes up to Full HD with HDR and support for 4K inputs. Operating System: However, they differ in terms of the operating systems. The Nebula Capsule II has the more advanced Android TV 9.0, which supports 5,000 apps. Meanwhile, the Nebula Capsule Max uses the Android 8.1 operating system. Both are fine operating systems but the Nebula Capsule II is definitely compatible with a later version of the Android OS used for HDTVs.

User reviews

While using the Max, I also tested out the Nebula tripod. So I will compare it to using a tripod made for DSL and video cameras. I use a portable projector about every other week for a movie night. The only things that the Capsule II does better than the Max are its more robust USB-C capabilities that allow you to hook up a USB-C power bank and its Android TV 9.0 operating system that supports 5,000 apps. The processor appears to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU, coupled with 2 GB of DDR3 RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. This is a fairly decent set of specs, which allows to perform most tasks with ease. On the connection front are Bluetooth 4.2 Dual Mode and WiFi 802.11b/g/n/ac (so up to WiFi 5, with support for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). Volts is similar to height of a waterfall making water fall down faster, current is similar to width of a waterfall.
