Description

The trail begins near the village of Ratlinghope and winds through the countryside, offering stunning views of the Long Mountain and the surrounding valleys. The route is easy to follow and is lined with stunning views of the countryside, which is especially beautiful in the spring and summer months. This is a great walk for a leisurely stroll, or a more strenuous hike, depending on your preference.

The Sandstone Trail is an excellent way to spend a day or two out in the countryside and soak up the natural beauty of the region. The Hill Valley Walk Along the way, you’ll also have the opportunity to observe a variety of wildlife, including red deer, badgers, and foxes. The breathtaking views of the Cheshire Plain are a fantastic reward for those who complete the walk.

Joining our walking community 

This Shropshire village near Oswestry has a historic moated castle and some fine canalside trails to try nearby. There's also an ancient 16th century inn to rest and relax in afterwards. The route then passes the 18h century Welsh Bridge before crossing the river and heading through the town centre. You'll pass the noteworthy Shrewsbury Library which was the home of Shrewsbury School from 1550 until 1882. Soon after you return to the castle and the finish point of the walk. This exceptionally lovely walk takes you through the beautiful Shropshire and Herefordshire countryside, from Ludlow to Kington. With plenty of places to stop and explore, the Sarn Helen Trail is an ideal way to experience the beauty of Shropshire. The Nesscliffe TrailNon-members are very welcome to join as guests for up to three walks to try us out. After that we ask that you join the Ramblers as a member. Members form other Ramblers groups and areas are very welcome too.
