We see him use a wheelchair in this book, and how he pushes himself to not need it (and often ends up over exerting himself and be forced back into using it), and he lives with chronic pain. Katherine Danvers and her family were in a poor financial position which had worsened considerably since the death of her father. Alexander is passionate about political reform; Kitty has no interest in politics, and deflects any attempts to engage her in political conversation. They set this aside because, eh, screw it, they’re into each other and they have a similar sense of humor and adventure. She’ll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters.

It’s beautifully written especially the Duke’s torment of loving Kitty but not wanting to be a burden to her with his physical limitations. And the epilogue was just SO PERFECT - you just know Kitty and Alexander are going to be happy for the rest of their beautiful lives. Admittedly, I haven't read much historical romance but these were the first three things that came to mind) I had really high hopes for this one. I can't speak from an Own Voices perspective on this but I really liked how this was used in Alexander's story from how vulnerable he had to be at times in front of Kitty, how good and gentle, yet respectful, she was of his conditions, and how Alexander's injuries and fear of his future is one of the reasons he eventually pushes her away. and it features a group of 5 women who have labeled themselves, "Sinful Wallflowers" -- the only problem is that none of them have ever done anything remotely sinful. The sparkling story features lively characters with plenty of raffish charm and prose that’s snappy while retaining an elegant period feel. I absolutely love Stacy Reid's books but the narrator ruins them with her long drawn out breathy voice. When her friends declare themselves ‘Sinful Wallflowers’, she comes up with an outrageous plan to use the power of a duke's name to her advantage. He also collects things from all over the world - one he used to travel often, but since his impairment has had to be satisfied with continuing to acquire items to add to his treasure room, which is where he spends much of his time. Os diálogos e cenas entre Alexander e Katty são primorosos e aquecem (ou cortam, às vezes) o coração do leitor.

There's a lot of "if he just tries hard enough, he'll get past it", which, to be fair, is how it works within the narrative. She was only hoping the connection would be just the thing to see her sisters married and taken care of. I really enjoyed the characters and story but Christ of the narrator is infuriating in her pronunciation of certain words.

I promise to love you with every breath in my body and every emotion in my heart until the end of my days, Katherine. A woman’s scam of passing herself off as a duke’s fiancee succeeds all too well in this Regency love story. I believe the H is not giving the h the benefit of doubt, I think if he fully explained things to her she would surprise him with her response. Impoverished viscount’s daughter Katherine “Kitty” Danvers doesn’t have enough dowry money to snag decent marriage proposals for herself or her sisters. She'll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters.

This is due to a tragic accident he had that left him scarred, and not able to walk he uses a wheelchair most of the time. out of 5 stars “Lush, beautifully written, and deeply romantic, My Darling Duke will sweep you off your feet. Before she knows it, Katherine has transformed herself into Kitty Danvers, charming and clever belle of the ton—with everyone eager to meet her thankfully absent fiancé.The characters were likeable or at least intriguing, Kitty herself, scheming, resourceful and brazen to have created such an elaborate tale. She’ll impress the ton by simply announcing she is engaged to the reclusive and mysterious Duke of Thornton, Alexander Masters, and secure strong matches for her sisters. I cannot say enough about this book so suffice it to say that if you love a great romance, you have to read this one! The Duke is solemn but sweet (when he’s not in pain) and has unique relationships with his household staff and his sister that makes it clear he is interested in people as they are, not as society deems they should be.
