In this article, I explain the differences between both these models from Sena and voice my opinion of which model is the best. The 50S is claimed to be water-resistant. However, multiple users state that in heavy rain, the headset has stopped working by just cutting off. It is a pretty extensive list, and you can pretty much do everything you would need to do on your headset using your voice.

While Google Maps and Calimoto on the phone will interrupt music that’s being streamed from the same device, the intercom will overpower it – so if someone speaks as the directions come through, you won’t hear them. Also, when the radio is on, the phone’s directions don’t interrupt it, so you can’t hear them (I also tried pairing the phone as a GPS but it wouldn’t work). An audio priorities option like that found on the Cardo could help here. This is the second part of the Mesh test – riders 1 and 2 stayed where they were, but rider 3 (me) turned around and rode past them until the connection was again lost. Everyone faced the same direction, and here rider 2 was able to talk to rider 1 still, and until the limit of the connection, rider 3 was part of the conversation. Audio Multi-tasking was hit and miss with the SR10 that I have connected to a RADAR detector, and a 2 way amateur radio. Another HUGE FAIL for me. Works perfectly with my 10S or 20S EVO. When it did work, and the connection ceased, streaming music from my iPhone 8 would be jittery. Had to re-boot the 50S to solve the issue.

On the other hand, Cardo models work very well when all the riders in a group have models from this brand only. It offers better audio quality and has waterproof models that make it more durable and rugged in adverse weather conditions. I have a lot invested in these systems and do not have resources to go to another system or I would. I’d never recommend Sena systems to anyone. WHile they work, they are great and the 50Rs work great until they do not. Now they do not. I get a low battery report after having used it an hour. REALLY! Apps from Sena and Cardo do this, allowing you to assign riders in the network and giving you the flexibility to adjust commands and other controls. When the 50S is ON, hold the Phone Button for five seconds – the alternating Red/Blue flashing sequence indicates pairing mode, and the ‘Phone Pairing’ announcement is heard. Initiate pairing per the sequence above. Bluetooth Intercom Pairing

The auxiliary connection might appeal to some users, but I expect any headset to connect all my devices via Bluetooth, so smooth connections here are really important to me, and with the GPS connected through GPS pairing mode, instructions are fed direct to the intercom. One last point is that Mesh users can bridge a Sena Bluetooth Intercom user into a Mesh 2.0 conversation, which is cool if you have a friend that hasn’t yet upgraded to a Sena Mesh system.To me, it is quirky; and even when activated it seems to work for one or two commands then it disappears, usually until the system is rebooted. I can only hope that other users have a better experience and if so, is all good. Compared to the same feature found in the closest competitor’s systems, the Sena Voice Command needs (more) work. Connect the adapter to your WiFi network, and after a one-time setup, it’s programmed to detect and install updates when the headset is connected.
