To make a sweeter mead, you just need to add more honey and use a yeast made specifically for sweet honey wine. If you want a dry champagne type of mead, you need to use less honey and use champagne yeast. You can even have dry sweet mead! Also, the sanitizer it came with wasn’t as strong and convenient as the one I typically use for my homebrew equipment but it does its job. You just have to remember to let the containers dry after cleaning before using them.

Mead has been around forever. In today’s day and age, fads, or the new hot thing is what people want. Unfortunately, this pushes the now “unpopular” drinks out of people’s minds. But trends are cyclical and there is a very good chance that mead can or will become popular again. A great way to do this it simply to pop your mead in the fridge! Keep it in there for at least two days. The cold forces any leftover particles to fall to the bottom of your container. A mead-making kit should be easy to use and easy to understand when it comes to instructions. Your mead-making kit should come with plenty of information on how to use it properly, especially when it comes to the recipes or ingredients options. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Read the basics first before buying this as the manual it comes with is a tad bit advanced for complete newbies. Nevertheless, I love how it also has recipe ideas, as well! Today, mead production continues in several countries around the world. Countries like Ireland, Poland, and Finland, where it’s difficult to grow grapes for wine, are leaders in the production of mead. It’s here that the mead renaissance has taken place.I loved how basic and simple this kit is. I’m too meticulous for my own good so most probably, if this kit came with honey, I wouldn’t have used it anyway and would just go and buy my own choice. This kit came just in time because I wanted to test a new recipe so having this to pilot a batch of mead was definitely great. This deluxe kit includes Oak Chips, Isinglass, and Potassium Sorbate to give your mead a clearer appearance, body, and a longer shelf life. The fermentation usually takes about 7 days, but your mead might bubble as long as two weeks! That’s totally fine — the longer your mead ferments, the more sugar your yeast are eating — and the dryer and more alcoholic your mead will become. Gather 2.5 lb of honey and 1 gallon of spring water. Pour only HALF a gallon of water into the sanitized jug using the funnel.

You can carefully transfer them in smaller individual bottles and you have a choice whether to drink it “young” or let it age a little more. This mead kit is best for someone who is just starting out to make mead and needs a very basic kit. This kit will help you add a new fermenter to your brewing equipment and gives you all of the essentials you need to help you get started. Pros You’ll need to source 2.5 lb of honey for your homemade mead. Many honey brands offer 40 oz bottles that are perfect for your first batch of mead – like Target or Trader Joe’s. You can choose to use a single variety of honey or you can use a combination of honey types in a single batch. Choosing the right honey is important, since its flavor profile is the foundation of your mead. ANY honey variety can be used to make mead. Honey is named for the flower the nectar was collected from. We recommend using 100% natural honey for the best results. Here’s what you can expect from a few of our favorite varieties: Sometimes, we recommend buying a product directly from the manufacturer when we know it’s a brand we trust. You can make homemade mead with a few ingredients and small brewing equipment. Those two elements are the only real significant differences between the two types. Yes, the recipe doesn’t look that different, but the kind of honey, fruit and spices used in a big mead company are highly and carefully selected. If you’re looking for a new hobby and you just so happen to love mead, we have the perfect new activity for you. Mead making kits are a fun way to learn about one of the oldest alcoholic beverages out there – mead. This kit is all-inclusive and is great for anyone who is just starting out or for someone who loves an all-inclusive kit to get them on their brewing way. The only things not included in this kit are the fruit, honey, corker, corks, and bottles, which are all easily attained. Pros This kit is pretty complete, which makes it ideal for anyone who wants to start making mead that hasn’t tried to make mead at home before. It has all the supplies you need along with an easy-to-read and understands instruction book complete with a few recipes to try at home. Pros
