However, the arrow pile was very low, and I knew that if I re-rolled and got too many arrows, I could inadvertently kill myself instead of my opponent. I would have liked to see a bit more iconography on the cards, but it's the dice that really make or break the game, and they're done well.

Bang: The Dice Game plays like a kind of unholy fusion between Yahtzee and the movie Blazing Saddles. system is very good about that in general (including its sister game, Samurai Sword), and it really shines in this short game.Personally, I find that the deal two method is more preferable, but it just gives everyone some choice. Gatling: If you roll 3 or more Gatlings, each other player loses one life point and you get rid of all your arrows. Within Bang though, I’m not sure that actually holds true and it’s because of the ambiguity of intention that comes from the central role of the dice. Limiting the number of actions available makes the symbology of the game short and memorable and really accessible to new players of all ages. Depending on your role, you will have a different victory condition - kill the Sheriff, kill the Outlaws and Renegade, or be the last man standing; and depending on your character, you will have a different special ability to help you accomplish your goal.

The Bullet comes with a shiny Sheriff’s badge for the Sheriff, and it’s kind of unfortunate that there’s no similar thing for Dice Game owners. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Whilst there are games I would rather play with 4 players there is no other game I want to play more than bang the dice game with 8 players. Bang is certainly limited in strategy Morso than the card game but there is still opportunity to use it. Every time he rolls an arrow, he immediately takes an arrow token, and any dynamites that he rolls he must keep. With four or more players, you can play the "Undead or Alive" module, which adds a deck of boneyard cards. The game does require a degree of numeracy (for tracking health, and also for working out which target is viable for a bullet), some literacy (for understanding character powers), and the ability to decouple action from outcome (particularly when it comes to the arrows). As such you can play effectively without even working out who is who, but in the end you lose what’s supposed to be interesting about the game. The game ends immediately if the Sheriff is eliminated or all the Outlaws and Renegades are eliminated.

I rather like the yahtzee mechanic employed here as well, it tends to keep the pace up and the added randomness helps the game feel lighthearted enough that no one can take it too seriously. Bang' is an absolutely fantastic game for 3-8 players that plays in about 15 minutes, making it a great way to start an evening off or fill a bit of space. The catch is the only person who identifies himself is the sheriff so nobody knows who anyone is as you have to figure it out as each player takes a turn. We do love the original as well but you invest a lot more time into it, and if your out first it can make for a long night. There's a progressive scale depending on the number of players but the rules are virtually the same, although there's a variant for 3 players. The first player who dies becomes the ghost and can help his team (or hinder his foes) a bit from beyond the grave.

But it so happened that someone had the dice game at a recent gathering, and we played three games, each of which lasted less than 10 minutes. But you know, if you have Bang handy on a shelf somewhere you won’t do yourself any active harm in playing it. Thirdly there are new role cards, just like the old ones except with a special power that you can use once by revealing your role during the game. The only downside was a missing bullet token when I unpacked the game (there was just a hole in the sheet), but this might have been a single occurrence.Social deduction games really need to permit ways for that deduction to make itself known and Bang… does a poor job of that. The rating of a game in terms of its accessibility is not an indication as to its quality as a recreational product.
