The reason for both (the hard and the refreshing part) is the same. I found so much of myself in both Riley and Aiden, having highlighted so many quotes where they describe their mental state or their level of inadequicy. I don't think I've every felt so seen in another character's perspective the way I did with that paragraph.

I wished there would've been more insight into Riley's past, considering how much it played a part in the story. However, I admired Riley's strength and felt for her and what she's gone through. There was so much family drama, it just kept going. I grew bored and uninterested. It felt like there was stalling from the main plot. i just hate false advertising. i’m not as triggered as i was during the second book bc now i know not to trust this author. i don’t understand the need to call this book “dark” when its all fluff and more fluff.

fluff until the 46% mark. i mean genuinely nothing dark nothing happening. those 46% were all set in ONE day. imagine reading 16 chapters of them spending their "one night stand" i was bored out of my mind bc there wasn't any smut either.Riley is a girl who’s been through a lot, and has a hard time letting people see the real her. Because her past trauma isn’t only on the inside, but on the outside too. Aiden and Riley have such a hot and toxic relationship. A lot of the drama centered around miscommunication and Aiden wanting his revenge. There was a lot of sex and smut and I wish there a little bit of more time for finding an emotional balance. There definitely was scenes toward the end, but not enough to were I feel like they are that strong of a point. Their relationship was a little bit of a slow burn. But I needed more of after the burning settled and a steadier path.

even though i loved the couple, cough cough, jones wolfe, i found the whole book boring. i kept waiting for the shoe to drop but nothing happened. it was all at the same exact pace. there wasn’t a peak there wasn’t anything. there wasn’t any sexual tension between them. they just got together. even though i loved how wolfe communicated, it wasn’t enough to make me love him more than kal. even the subplot happening with her past was so obvious and just ugh idk i'm very underwhelmed. i didn't set any high expectation for this book but its still disappointing. Like one of the reasons they got together was for publicity, but I was expecting publicity stunts and more public outings. Yet, a lot of the drama centered on family.
