Description

It starts off badly when a blood-covered man, in a Crater Lake uniform, bangs on the window of their coach. We watch his leadership abilities emerge, while his friends demonstrate other talents within a growing bond that determines they must survive.

All appears to be settling down, high school has started so surely that will be the next important chapter in the lives of loyal friends Lance, Chet,Mak, Ade, Kat? Karim’s mum works at the university for XGen, which is giving their town renewable energy and super-fast Wi-Fi. Dining at Crater Lake National Park offers sustainable foods sourced regionally and prepared by our chefs with your enjoyment in mind. At the activity centre they are given a strange reception and fed only on warm soup but it’s when they go to bed that things take a turn for the worse. They’re pacy, entertaining stories with a sense of gore and friendship which current kids would definitely be on board with. All are coming to terms with new friendship dynamics while at the same time having to band together to defeat a now more sophisticated enemy. He's never excelled at anything, but when confronted with the life-or-death situation at Crater Lake, and keeping his friends safe, he totally soars. Enjoyed how the author dealt with the difficult transition from primary to secondary school amidst the sporelings attack. As they’re unaffected, it’s up to Lance and his friends to uncover the cause – and find a way to stop it.

It’s also big on heart as the children reveal their secret “weaknesses” and so gain the strength they need. Now he, Katja, Max, Chets and Ade, plus new friend Karim, must think bigger and bolder if they are to save their families. Jennifer Killick has her finger on the pulse on children's language, humour and interests making this an immersive and engaging read. It is Jennifer Killick's talent that the heart warming, human aspect of the story holds as much weight as the science fiction plot of fear and danger. The dining room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and features a relaxing atmosphere and alarge stone fireplace. If you’ve read the first book – named simply Crater Lake – you’ll know that Jennifer Killick has a skill in balancing horror with comedy.

There is nothing better in a story than a twist you didn't see coming – something that knocks you off your feet. I have finished the CRATER LAKE series, but luckily there is another series by Jennifer Killick with a new entry out for me to read ( DREAD WOOD)! It means there's a new mystery to how the aliens are infecting people, and thus the crew have to think up a new way of stopping them. Montmorency School’s Form Six students are fortunate to be the first school party to spend a few days at Crater Lake.Author Luke Palmer introduces his new book, Play (Firefly Press) about four boys growing up together, the challenges, the friendships, and what hap. The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have. Lance’s suspicions are already on red alert, so he’s quick to take the lead to work out what’s going on. This book is a wonderful continuation of the themes developed in its predecessor - horror, comedy, friendship, bravery and trust - but the difficult transition of the principal characters from primary to secondary school gives it an added dimension. Thanks to the lovely peeps at Firefly Press for the advanced reader copy that was obtained through Netgalley.

Most of the Crater crew have fallen out with each other but he has a new friend in Karim and is still friends with Chets. Whether you are looking for outdoor adventures, want to immerse yourself in nature, or simply relax and take in the views, Crater Lake awaits you. Aside from a weird lack of staff and a very odd manager, there’s also the panicked man covered in blood shouting at them all to run. Crater Lake: Evolution takes place five months after we last saw Lance and the gang surviving their Y6 residential trip with its alien spore invasion of the "bug eyes". What follows is a thrill-a -second, fast-paced, frantic, funny, witty, seriously creepy, edge-of-your-seat, holding your breath (in fear and hope) absolute belter of a book! She also makes little stabs at educational “norms”, especially the social eugenics of secondary school transfers – Lance knows he will never get into Bing, the selective school Chets is heading for. It will be interesting to see what the children make of Crater Lake as a sci/fi-horror style book is something we haven’t done before and is something I think they would find really appealing.
