Description

A total of 30 Dwarf Infantry can be assembled from the box set, armed with hand weapons, spears, shields and bows, or a combination; allowing for a single unit of 30 fighters or multiple separate units*. Also included are standard bearer and officer pieces. With a total of six sprues comprising of a range of pieces, there are more than enough parts in the set to create a truly dynamic looking collection of Dwarfs. If you’re a fan of converting then you’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of spare bits that can to be used elsewhere. I recently came across this picture (from Wargaming in Middle Earth) of converted models by Kev Dallimore; he combines Oathmark Goblins and Dwarf Infantry pieces to assemble models that would represent Uruks or Orcs perfectly. Converted Oathmark models by Kev Dallimore. *One of the appealing aspects of Oathmark is that new players can start playing games from the contents of just one box of figures. The Dwarfs in Oathmark have the best overall defense values and the second-best activation (and moral) values in the game. They happen to also be the slowest army in the game and none of their units can take mounts of any kind. Available Units

The artwork is equally cool! I can’t wait to see more. The Artwork for the Oathmark Heavy Dwarves Plastic Miniatures Box Set. Wrapping it up… Recently, I went through all of the races in the book and listed their advantages and disadvantages in the game. In this post, we will look specifically at the list of the Dwarfs. As a note, these are very “lord of the rings” type units. There are no crossbows, guns or Dwarf cavalry on rams. Two Ways to Play Oathmark In Oathmark though, all the races know how to get along for the most part. You are battling against kingdoms, not the specific races. Humans don’t hate Orcs here just like Elves don’t hate Dwarfs. What maters is who’s Kingdom do you belong to. You are encouraged to make your Kingdom how you want and to have it contain more than just one race. To play to the game, each player needs their own army with a minimum of about 30 figures, the number that comes in one box of plastic Oathmark Dwarf, Goblin, Elf, or Human Infantry. After playing a couple games at this basic level, however, most players decide to expand their armies to contain numerous different units with varying strengths and abilities. That’s fine; the Oathmark rules work just as well for armies of 300 figures as they do for armies of 30.Hopefully, you enjoyed this article about Oathmark. North Star Military Figures makes some beautiful miniatures for this game (seen above). That said, the game is miniature agnostic so maybe you have alternative figures that you want to use. Special thanks goes out to Osprey Games for sending me this book for review purposes. As you prepare to play Oathmark: Battles of the Lost Age, you may be wondering what you need to play the game. Here's an extract from the book looking at what is required in a little more detail. Lets assume, that all of my tips will prove to be true, whatwill be still missing? Here is a list of the units (so no characters, no monsters, no artillery) from the books, which would be still needed: Hopefully you enjoyed this deep dive looking at the Armies Of Oathmark. Personally, I think this is a good start, but wish that the book also covered the Undead. It looks like the living dead will be covered in the second expansion, so here is hoping. The official lines of miniatures for the game come from North Star Military Figures. Thanks goes out again to Osprey Games for sending me this book for review.

Elf dogs: there was an Elf Hunt Master miniature, but only as a special offer, and without dogs. There could be a separate box for this, but honestly, I dont think that its really needed... Northstar has some metal dog/wolf miniatures, so if the Elf Hunt Master would be released as a normal miniature, anybody could make a unit with combining them. Monsters can be very impressive, like the 800 point Winged Dragon which is practically a small army in itself. However, in a 3000 point average game it will eat up over a quarter of your points, so it better be a gamechanger. That amount of points will buy four (4!) full units of Goblin soldiers! Alternatively (and MUCH recommended!), you can build a Kingdom with a capital of a specific race, but additional territories that enable you to field units from different races as well! While other races' territories are slightly more expensive to "buy" into your Kingdom, you can take any. But not all. You can only take 10 territories out of 44 as your starting Kingdom and each territory gives you specific units of a specific race. For example Plains give you Human cavalry. I created the Kingdom of Dale/Erebor from The Hobbit this way. While your human generals may not be as effective at leading a unit of orcs, you can gain access to a plethora of units by mix and matching. The Armies of OathmarkIf you choose to play a single game where you each select a single race, this post will give you a good idea to expect from each army. These seems to be confirmed by fresh news on Wargameterrain: "We will have a regular release schedule for plastic Oathmark figures this year, including: Human Cavalry, Dwarf Light Infantry, Revenants, Orcs and Goblin Lt Infantry." So here’s what you get out of the box: lots! There are swords, there are axes and there are hammers. There’s also standard bearer and musician pieces, shields, one handed weapons and great weapons. And then there’s heads: 14 per sprue both helmeted and uncovered. There are an excess of accessories to add to your bit box. The differences in races are notable. Elves tend to be expensive and extremely disciplined elite specialists, are very hard to break, will almost always activate but are never numerous. On the other end of the spectrum there are the goblins, brittle, undisciplined and mediocre at best but cheap enough to field them in hordes.
