Description

The GLC-GE-DR-LX SFP can interoperate with other 1G SFPs/interfaces as long as those are based on 1000BASE-LX/LH standard. No attenuator is needed in any fiber strand. SFP transceivers are compatible with managed media converters, unmanaged media converters, PoE switches, industrial PoE switches, Ethernet media converters, and most 3rd party products to meet specific networking protocols and media requirements. The SFP transceivers support multi-mode dual fiber, single-mode dual fiber, single-mode single-fiber, Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing, and unshielded twisted pair (UTP) copper cabling. Gbit/s The original QSFP document specified four channels carrying Gigabit Ethernet, 4GFC ( FiberChannel), or DDR InfiniBand. [49] 40 Gbit/s (QSFP+) QSFP+ is an evolution of QSFP to support four 10Gbit/s channels carrying 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10GFC FiberChannel, or QDR InfiniBand. [50] The 4 channels can also be combined into a single 40 Gigabit Ethernet link. 50 Gbit/s (QSFP14) The QSFP14 standard is designed to carry FDR InfiniBand, SAS-3 [51] or 16G Fibre Channel. 100 Gbit/s (QSFP28) The QSFP28 standard [6] is designed to carry 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand, or 32G Fibre Channel. Sometimes this transceiver type is also referred to as QSFP100 or 100G QSFP [52] for sake of simplicity. 200 Gbit/s (QSFP56) QSFP56 is designed to carry 200 Gigabit Ethernet, HDR InfiniBand, or 64G Fibre Channel. The biggest enhancement is that QSFP56 uses four-level pulse-amplitude modulation ( PAM-4) instead of non-return-to-zero (NRZ). It uses the same physical specifications as QSFP28 (SFF-8665), with electrical specifications from SFF-8024 [53] and revision 2.10a of SFF-8636. [7] Sometimes this transceiver type is referred to as 200G QSFP [54] for sake of simplicity.

An SFP, or small form factor pluggable, is a compact, hot-swappable transceiver designed to support 100/1000Mbps Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SONET, among other communication standards. SFP transceivers support speeds up to 4.25Gbps and are commonly used in telecommunications and data communications applications. SFP ports are found in a range of devices, from Ethernet switches to routers, NIC cards and firewalls. Small form factor pluggable specification is based on IEEE802.3 and SFF-8472. SFP vs SFP+ You can find an SFP port on a network device, such as a switch, server, router, or network interface card, or computer. Most switches used in large computer network applications have at least two SFP ports. These switches are sometimes referred to as SFP switches. How does an SFP port work?SFP28 is capable of a wider range of reach distances relative to SFP+. With higher bandwidth capabilities and reach distances, organizations deploying SFP28 for 25G require a reduced number of switches and cables. With less complexity, network operators can reduce facility costs in terms of space, power, and cooling. For SFP28, you can also consider dual rate options such as 10G/25G SFP28, which is interoperable with legacy 10G SRs in the network.

Single-Mode Fiber (SMF): featuring a narrow core (typically around 9μm), SMF allows only a single mode (or “ray”) of light to propagate. It is mostly used to transmit data over long distances (max 2km – 120km). The Cisco GLC-BX40-D-I, GLC-BX40-DA-I, and GLC-BX40-U-I SFPs operate on a single strand of standard SMF. QSFP28: QSFP28 was also introduced in 2014 and shares the same physical dimensions as QSFP+, but uses 4 lanes of 25Gbps. QSFP28 is now the standard interface of choice for 100G applications. These two "distribution " switches should have SFP ports as normal ports and also an uplink module that hosts SFP+ to connect to the C4500. Connecting a UDM-SE to an ISP modem on the WAN and a computer on the LAN using the UACC-CM-RJ45-MG at 2.5/5/10Gbps speeds. SFP28 Modules The principle of Single Wavelength BiDi Transceiver". A slightly larger sibling is the four-lane Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable ( QSFP). The additional lanes allow for speeds 4 times their corresponding SFP. In 2014, the QSFP28 variant was published allowing speeds up to 100Gbit/s. [6] In 2019, the closely related QSFP56 was standardized [7] doubling the top speeds to 200Gbit/s with products already selling from major vendors. [8] There are inexpensive adapters allowing SFP transceivers to be placed in a QSFP port. Optical interoperability with 10GBASE XENPAK, 10GBASE X2, and 10GBASE XFP interfaces on the same linkAs we utilize the SFP transceivers with CWDM/DWDM Multiplexers, the network capacity will increase because CWDM SFP transceivers transmit multiple data channels over separate wavelengths on the same fiber pair. SFP ports can accommodate both copper and fiber optic cable connections. The use of a copper or fiber optic cable depends on the data transfer capabilities of the SFP transceiver. Both supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet, the SFP+ module (left) is narrower and shorter than the XFP module (right). A cable can plug into SFP+ at one end and XFP at the other. (Image courtesy of Cisco Systems, Inc.) SFP+ Plugged In Though fiber SFP+ does not support auto-negotiating 10/100/1000Mbps, the 10GBASE-T SFP+ copper transceiver does. Thus the SFP+ port end keeps the same data rate as the SFP port end.
