Description

The Minelab Equinox 600 is applicable for various terrains; praises are due to its multi frequency technology and its six custom search profiles – two per its three detecting modes.

Again, to reiterate, what the Advanced Settings do primarily is offer an extra degree of control over functions shared by both the EQUINOX 600 and EQUINOX 800. The EQUINOX 600 has the same features, but keeps it simpler. In-built loudspeaker, wired 3.5mm (1/8") headphones (included) • Bluetooth compatible • WM 08 Wi-Stream compatible The compromises are one less detecting mode, the 600 doesn’t have the Gold Mode, your choices in some of the settings are not as wide as the 800 and the WM08 wireless unit isn’t supplied. Also, the individual frequencies you can choose are limited, with only 5, 10 & 15 kHz being available. The waterproof rating is also now improved from 3 metres to 5 metres for those wanting to delve a little deeper into the fray. However, this is somewhat irrelevant to a high percentage of detectorists. Anyone sharing their programs which run the recovery rate at 1-2 as a default setting, are causing so much damage to the reputation of the Equinox detectors. They've caused so many users to sell their Equinoxs, because they can’t handle to ridiculous noises their machines make at those settings. The Equinox 700 wins on discrimination, waterproof rating, headphones, composition and auxiliary features (torch, vibration etc).

As you drop the recovery rate the target responses will get stronger, but the trade off is the mineralisation/iron contamination will pollute the audio response, often making a good target sound like large iron. It’s not surprising that users using low recovery rate (1-3) often complain they are digging lots of iron, everything sounds like iron to them! Visually, the Equinox 700 looks better. And we mean even better than an Equinox 600 that’s had an aftermarket carbon-fibre shaft fitted. Minelab have done well on both design and production, and the unit just looks more modern and for want of a better word, ‘cooler’. Compatible with ultra-fast wireless audio with the WM 08, and fast aptX Low Latency / Bluetooth headphones.

EQUINOX 600 Technologies

At the time of writing this post wireless headphones were available until the end of January 2020. Both models come with the following: Each Detect Mode features 2 custom Search Profiles so you can save your favourite settings in each mode. So why do we need detectors with fast recovery rate? Simply to allow the machine to separate targets close to one another. This can be two solid targets next to each other (e.g. nail and coin) allowing the detector to analyse each target individually. Or to stop a target’s response being blanked-out (swamping out) by ferrous materials in the ground ( Feoxides).

Each mode comes with a specific tuning setting and tone pitch. The beach mode also features an underwater program that lets you, scout, for lost jewellery and coins at a maximum depth of 3 meters.

Product Manuals & Guides

Rugged and lightweight construction allows you to enjoy long detecting sessions in any environment. Only weighing 1.34kg (2.96 lbs) with 11" coil. Park mode is the most versatile for general detecting and in high trash areas such as parks and public places. The Minelab 800 offers 2 additional search modes that the 600 doesn’t have. These additional search modes are for gold prospecting. The table below show lists the different search modes for each machine. Equinox 800
