Description

Riden - Alosas love interest and partner in crime - was a great character with a beautiful personality. He was kind, loyal and the love he had for Alosa was so sweet. Alosa has long, fiery red, curly hair with sun-kissed skin. Riden referred to Alosa as beautiful to Kearan and Enwen before assigning them to guard her in the brig of the Night Farer. Her eye color depends on the amount of Siren abilities she has in her possession. The more power she has the bluer her eyes, but when she has no more power her eyes are green. Every few lines, Alosa seemed to be saying,'Oh, I can't do that it will give me away. I can't do that either, I can't be caught.'. Yeah, yeah, I understand she is a better fighter and pirate than everyone. *unimpressed*

I value brilliant minds, honest souls, and those with long endurance. I forge relationships based on trust and mutual respect, not fear and control.”The truth in those words is clearly reflected in her relationship with the members of her crew and loyalty and respect they exhibit towards her. It also gives us an opportunity to see Alosa in her well deserved role as captain of her ship. The members of her crew she is closest with are Niridia (first mate), Mandsy (first mate during Alosa's mission and the voice of reason), and Sorinda (assassin). Firstly, the supernatural elements seemed to manifest from nowhere and felt out of place. I got no sense for the first half of the book that anything fantastical was going to happen, and the sudden introduction of it without warning was really jarring. To be fair, I did like that the author considered what being a siren would mean for non-het people. Sirens historically are women who affect all men, but Alosa's charms do not work on gay men.Days go by with him coming in often to interrogate her and her toying with him a bit. Alosa continues her search for the map each night. She knows they’re getting close to the fake location she gave Draxen. She decides to try to get something from Riden by talking about her father and his hiding places. Riden ends up admitting his father would’ve most likely kept anything of value on his person. As was to be expected, this book was a roaring good time. It also got me out of my mini reading slump. This book starts off with Alosa handing over the last piece of the map to her father and capturing Vordan who reveals something that Alosa can't quite wrap her head around, but it inevitably leads her to move against the pirate king, endangering not only her life but also that of her crew. We also witness her struggle to master the siren part of her that wants nothing more than to join the sea.

Every time men said something sexist she silenced them in a few seconds with an awesome response or act.

I finished this one last night and I have to say that I really love this series overall - even though I wish there had been more with the sirens in this one? 🏴‍☠☠️⚓🧜

Pirate Books

I would recommend this book if you are looking for a fast-paced, entertaining and easy to read pirate story with a strong main character and a touch of banter and romance. Each of the three Pirate Lords - the Allemos line, the Kalligan line, and the Serad line - were given a piece of an ancient map that lead to Isla de Canta. (Alosa and her father are descended from the Kalligan line). Her skills as a Captain are put to the test, but there's no denying her fierce nature. Struggling to gain control of her Siren powers, she grows closer to Riden and realizes something about him being near makes her powers easier to handle. Alosa is devastated to learn her father has been lying to her about something very important. She feels betrayed and extremely angry.
