Description

This LEGO set is an ideal gift for children who are new to both Star Wars and LEGO. Step-by-step instructions are included, ensuring that even beginners can easily follow along and build their own Republic Fighter Tank. This gift will not only provide hours of entertainment but also encourage creativity and problem-solving skills.

Two standard Battle Droids complete the minifigure selection. These skeletal figures are very common, but provide reasonable play value. While few alterations have been introduced since Battle Droids arrived in 1999, the figures remain immediately recognisable. Even though newer designs could absolutely prove interesting, they would not be my priority. Quite some of the fans that are complaining about the figs in this set are the exact same ones who have been asking for more clone unit minifigures? LEGO has absolutely delivered, and I think even though the tank looks overly disappointing, the minifigures are great. I am disappointed, not by how bad this set might look on first glance, but by the people who are complaining about everything, even the minifigure selection, which might I add is superb in my opinion for 2022. Putting in 4 actual minifigures alongside 2 battle droids? LEGO could've took the cheap way out and have a similar selection as the 2017 tank: Mace Windu, one 187th trooper and 2 battle droids.By the time December 2022 rolls around, and we’re thinking about how to celebrate the year just gone (in LEGO), remind us to put together a list on ‘the most random and unexpected minifigure line-ups’. It’s a niche category, for sure, but one that 75342 Republic Fighter Tank is likely to top. Edit 5/14: After getting the kit in hand and building this MOC in person I slightly updated the interior as it didn't fit a minifig even without a helmet. Now it snugly fits one minifig in the front without a helmet with room behind for a second one, and there's still enough space to throw the pilot's helmet and gun in there. If you plan on adding a minifig to the pilot's seat, add them between steps 23 and 24 as the interior gets built around it. In addition to the exciting features and detailed design, this set introduces the 187th Legion Clone Trooper for the first time in LEGO history. This exclusive minifigure adds a unique element to the collection and will surely delight fans and collectors alike. The opportunity to lead their mini-dolls into battle and beyond will ignite the imagination of young space troopers. The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

Equipped with two elevating spring-loaded shooters, this tank is ready to take on any enemy. The lookout for the Clone Commander on top provides a strategic advantage, allowing for better coordination and planning during combat. Choosing to depict the purple 187th Legion Clone Troopers is interesting though, given they have a canonical equivalent. I presume the brown colour was considered unappealing." The turret section now has some more detail panels which help the top close level and not dip down.

Details

Thanks for another great review. However, I cannot agree with the good Captain regarding the type of troopers in this set. Next is Chapter 12-13, where Mace is unchanged, but his many troops start out wearing basic white, and are completely red by the end of the battle. I don’t think any of them ever got to wear unit markings. I would love to see Ponds in minifig form, but I doubt that would ever happen since he was only in two Clone Wars arcs excluding the Windu assassination. Also random fun fact, we actually have the Lightning Squadron in minifig form!"

Confusing is the word to summarise 75342 Republic Fighter Tank. The minifigure selection is superb, particularly for the exclusive Mace Windu and his colourful Clone Troopers. Selecting these non-canonical Clone Troopers, among numerous potentially more prominent options, is surprising though. Even so, I do love the purple!

The Completed Model

PurpleDave - The Clone Troopers with brown markings originate from the modern Clone Wars series, rather than the Tartakovsky series." The LEGO Group has been faithfully recreating iconic starships, vehicles, locations, and characters from the Star Wars universe since 1999. The Star Wars theme has become one of LEGO's most successful, captivating fans of all ages. The Republic Fighter Tank is a testament to the attention to detail and commitment to quality that LEGO is known for. I too hope they cover more alternative troopers such as the Galactic Marines. The best way to ensure that is to make a success of sets like this one. These are sweet! The printing on Mace is really awesome as well. Edit 5/15: I've changed the rear hatch so it's on a clip instead of hinge and is now one stud shorter to better fit the overall smaller size. This should be the final version unless I find that the wings are unstable after building them in person. That would definitely be correct. Although Ponds had an unfortunate end at the hands of Baby Boba in Clone Wars. I was actually focusing on the naming convention for the 187 Commander, and why he might have been called Thunder, but I appreciate the reply nonetheless!

Surely simply knowing the information and being able to notice references that others cannot is good enough, or do you need that surefire satifaction from making someone look as if they are an idiot. What you really want to know from this review is whether the rest of 75342 Republic Fighter Tank is worth a slice of your LEGO budget, and the answer is satisfying straightforward: yes, almost certainly. It’s not the biggest Republic Fighter Tank, nor the prettiest, but it bests both its predecessors in at least one department, and for that it shouldn’t be overlooked – at least if only to see how the LEGO Group has managed to come up with a third completely different way to build this vehicle. With its 262 pieces, this building toy offers a fun and engaging challenge for children aged 7 and up. Whether it's given as a Christmas gift, a birthday present, or a surprise treat, this set is sure to bring joy to any Star Wars fan. Once built, the Republic Fighter Tank can be proudly displayed, measuring over 10 cm (4 in.) high, 20 cm (8 in.) long, and 16 cm (6 in.) wide.
