Once, earlier in his political career, talking so bluntly had earned him ire. Now he caught multiple members of the Senate smiling. They expected this from him—even appreciated it. They knew how many problems there were in the Basin and were glad someone among them was willing to call them out. Sazed / Harmony: A former Terrisman who ascended to become the god Harmony, who is in conflict with Autonomy. At Dragonsteel Mini-Con in 2021, Brandon did a reading of the second draft of chapter one and part of chapter two, which can be listened to and read here on Arcanum. Telsin Ladrian: Wax's sister, the leader of the Set, a terrorist group, who has become the avatar of Autonomy.

Marasi studied the footprints in the dust. They appeared to be a few weeks old, as they’d gathered dust themselves. She walked over to Wayne, who was inspecting the path farther down into the depths: an arduous-looking tunnel with a steep decline. He glanced at her. But then her smile faded. “You can’t take things what don’t belong to you, Wayne. That’s somethin’ thieves do.” Arcanum Unbounded · Elantris · The Sunlit Man · Tress of the Emerald Sea · Warbreaker · White Sand · Yumi and the Nightmare Painter

I’ve not been a huge fan of the second mistborn era series since the onset. Sanderson never really allowed them to have their own identity because of the tie ins (much of which felt forced) with characters from era 1. It kinda reminds me of the difference between The Last Airbender and legend of Korra and one of the reasons why Korra was ultimately less successful as a story. The performance of Michael Kramer is so good it carried me through it. This book really tried me though (despite another stellar performance of the material)… Lyn: And of course, we have Marasi. What an awesome character. I’ve always liked her and her quest to try to better the lives of the people, but she felt so much more…mature in this book.

Codenames introduces her invested companion who is able to connect them with Kelsier, including a likeness, which she's surprised is recognizable. She was raised Survivorist, adding extra texture to the meeting for her. They update Kelsier on what they can surmise of Autonomy's plans, though Kelsier puzzles over the looming time-frame. TwinSouls explains that Autonomy's plan A is invasion by the men of red and gold, and the Set is trying to bomb Elendel as a gambit, comparing it to an amputation, which overwhelms Marasi. Kelsier exhibits godly graciousness to Marasi. Their network of operatives is mostly in Elendel, so the the team will be limited. Kelsier authorizes them to access a secret weapon. They gear up to go, and Marasi is curious about Moonlight's abilities. Nice,” Wayne said, leaning in beside her. “Some first-rate detectivin’, Marasi. How many old surveys did you have to read to find this?” Marasi had never been in a sewer before, but it was exactly as awful as she’d imagined. The stench was incredible, of course. But worse was the way her booted feet would occasionally slip for a heart-stopping moment, threatening to plunge her down into the “mud” underneath.

Marasi smiled. They’d been working together for almost six years now, since Wax’s retirement following the discovery of the Bands of Mourning. Wayne was an official constable, not some barely-within-the-law deputized citizen. He even wore a uniform once in a while. And— Together she and Wayne slipped inside, leaving the door as they’d found it. They dimmed their lantern as a precaution, then started into the depths.

Rusting perfumers,” Wayne said, his eyes narrowing. “Never can tell what they’re hiding with those fancy smells. You can’t trust a man what doesn’t smell like a man should.” In the aftermath, Kelsier and Harmony debate about whether Harmony should introduce technology to the people or not, and Wax lives happily with Steris and his children. The city honors Wayne by putting up a statue of him. Years later, and she was still hunting answers to questions that had plagued her from the very start of her career as a lawwoman. The group known as the Set, once run by Wax’s Uncle Edwarn, then revealed to involve his sister, Telsin, as well. A group that followed, or worshipped, or somehow furthered the machinations of a dark figure known as Trell. A god, she thought. From ancient times. His mother leaned forward, wagging her spoon toward him as she spoke. “He was the worst of them all, Wayne. Baddest, meanest, stinkiest bandit. He never bathed.”

The first draft of the book was about 149,000 words total; [5] in the third draft, it grew by about 25,000 words. [18] In the first draft, Part One was about 30,000 words and had two separate narratives, each with two of the main characters, and alternated viewpoints between all four main characters; Part Two was about 45,000 words and brought all four of the main characters together, continuing to alternate viewpoints; and in Part Three, the characters split again, with Marasi on her own arc of about 30,000 words, Wax and Wayne together for an arc of about 40,000 words, and Steris on her own for a short arc of about 10,000 words. Brandon wrote each of the arcs of Part Three separately from each other, which he found was a good approach as it essentially let him write the ending three times and he likes writing endings. [19] In total, Brandon predicted that Steris would have around seven or eight viewpoints. [20] The epilogue is a bit longer than normal, as it is the last book of Era 2 and Brandon wanted to linger with the characters and setting a little more. [5] Pre-Publication Content [ edit ] Kelsier looks out over Elendel from atop a skyscraper. Sazed appears, and informs Kelsier that the kandra discovered atium dust in Wax's laboratory, caused by the splitting of harmonium using trellium. He tells Kelsier that Marsh will be able to survive now. Kelsier hopes that the explosion produces lerasium as well, but Sazed misleads him that it was destroyed in the explosion. Kelsier tells Sazed he's not capable of protecting Scadrial, but Sazed says he has it in hand. Kelsier urges Sazed to lead them into a new technological age, so they can find new allies and ways to defend themselves. He argues with Sazed, saying that they need to speed up their technological advancement to survive. Kelsier tells Sazed that he'll protect Scadrial at any cost. If he was the bravest and strongest,” Wayne said, “why was he a lawman? He could be a bandit, and nobody could stop him!”
