With Spectra S1 Plus and S2 Plus you can control and adjust the Massage and Expression modes, as well as switch between these 2 phases mid-session. You will need an adapter for the Medela parts to work with the Spectra pump. This will need to be an aftermarket item since Spectra obviously doesn’t make one. There are two different adapters depending on what you want to do: First is you must select the appropriately sized breast shields (these are also referred to as the breast flange sizes). Medela, for instance, manufactures 5 different breast shield sizes (aka flange sizes) to accommodate all women. In general, you need to make sure your nipple is centered in the shield and not rubbing the sides as it is pumped, your areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) has space to move up and down as it is pumped, and your breast moves gently and rhythmically with the pumping, and feels comfortable during pumping. If any of these aren't correct, your breast shield may be too small, and it is likely that you will not get a good let-down. b) In let-down mode, you cannot change the cycle speed, it is fixed at 70 cycles per minute. Additionally, you can only adjust the suction strength between 1 to 5. On the other hand, during expression mode, you can adjust the cycle speed and suction strength independently.

Moms who want to receive a lot of accessories with their pump for a lower price point might want to consider the Philips AVENT double electric pump. You’ll get the pump, two breast cushions, two 4-ounce bottles, two nipples, two sealing disks, and a travel bag. The First Years Quiet Expressions There’s a built-in night light in Spectra S1 Breast Pump, as well as Spectra S2 Breast Pump. This makes using the pump at night much easier and more convenient. What Is The Difference Between Spectra 1 And Spectra 2? The main difference between Spectra S1 vs Medela Symphony is that the Medela Symphony is a hospital-grade pump designed for multiple users in the hospital setting. Spectra S1 is hospital grade but is designed for personal use. You can stay at the same level through out expression mode, and once your milk run dry (not dripping anymore), switch to massage-mode again to get another let-down. Repeat.

They also have the longest warranty protection that I know of for a breast pump. (Most brands offer a year or less.) Are there any cons to Spectra Breast Pumps? As of last year, we also began reviewing wearable breast pumps, which offer superior versatility for discreet pumping. Wearable under your bra, they offer completely hands-free pumping that is controlled via an app on your phone. The most popular wearable breast pumps at this point are the Elvie, Willow, and Freemie. In our opinion, we believe it's a great concept, but not perfectly executed at this point. The pumps tend to be weaker than others and do not produce as much milk as a traditional double electric pump. They can also be intermittently leaky and less comfortable. Not to mention that they are about double the price of a regular breast pump. If you love the concept of discreet, hands-free pumping that is hidden under your bra, then a wearable breast pump could be an awesome option. Just don't expect it to be as effective as a traditional pump. BPA and Phthalate Content This incredible result means that you’ll be able to use this breast pump with more than one child and that makes Spectra a fantastic investment. Night Light Hi, I have not found adapters for either the Tommee Tippee or the Munchkin Latch that fit the S2. There may be some made by a secondary brand like MayMom but I have not come across them. So you would likely need to pump into the Spectra collection bottles and then transfer the milk to the Tommee Tippee or Munchkin Latch to feed. This feature makes the S1 model more convenient and portable. When it’s time for your pumping sessions, you don’t have to search for a power outlet.

Of the Medelas, which would you recommend? My insurance company covers a 2nd breast pump, but only Medela Pump In Style Advanced Starter Kit. I am hesitant about this because it is an opened system and I do not want to deal with cleaning all the time. Is the open system really a big disadvantage? (I would probably pump with Spectra S1 at work and Medela at home). The key difference between Spectra S1 vs. S2 breast pump is that the former one has built-in battery which makes it more portable. You can use Spectra S1 Plus even when there’s no power outlet near you. Because of this feature, S1 Spectra pump is a bit more pricey. You’ve heard from all your breast pumping friends about how great the Spectra S1 is. But you aren’t sure you want to drop that much cash on a breast pump. What makes the S1 worth all that extra money? the long-stemmed one. You will find several on the market but this one uses one piece to fit the Medela Flanges to the Spectra tubing. You can find that one, here. It will highly depend on your preferences and lifestyle to determine which Spectra breast pump is the best. Here are my tips for choosing the best Spectra model FOR YOU.

When we compare Spectra with Medela Symphony, Spectra seems to be a better option because it is a fraction of Symphony cost, and it’s much more portable. Is The Spectra S1 Hospital Grade? Will you be expressing milk only at home or also other places, including your work office, car, airplane etc.? From my experience, Spectra is very efficient in removing milk, but if you are like me, not wanting to waste any single drop, practicing hand-expression / manual pumping will still get you some extra milk (5-15 ml), not bad for some extra milk. The Willow breast pumps follow a similar principle to the Elvie and Freemie Freedom breast pumps, offering a hands-free, in-bra wearable breast pump solution for moms on the go. The Willow pumps have some great basic features: completely wireless and hands-free operation, rechargeable batteries, super quiet, seven suction levels, sensitivity adjustment, and an amazing app. About the app: it's available for Apple and Android devices and provides not only control of the pumps but also real-time status monitoring of how much milk has been produced. Milk is collected in one of two ways. You can use the pump-and-store method which involves fitting each cup with a freezable storage pouch or the pump-and-pour method which pumps into a small container in each up that you can then pour into your favorite storage container (bottles, pouches, etc). Each of those containers, the reusable one or the freezable one, holds 4 ounces of milk. Before purchasing the Willow, you'll need to do a self-assessment of your nipple and breast size (the app helps with that) to find the perfectly-fitting flange (there are 3 flange sizes, 21, 24, or 27mm). This is such a great feature, because not all women benefit from slow speed / high vacuum setting. Some reference even mentions that higher pump speed make help you pump more milk at a more efficient pace. (4) Here are the suction strength and cycle speed options available in Spectra S1 Let-down mode:

So the official answer to this questions is that, no, the S2 does not have a car adapter. Spectra makes the S2 to connect to an outlet only. The S1 is the portable unit that has a rechargeable battery and that is the answer you will get if you asked Spectra directly. Yes, unlike other typical breast pump model, Spectra S1 and Spectra S2 allows you to adjust the vacuum / suction strength and suction speed setting independently.
