CA (Chromatic Aberration) is well controlled with only slight CA visible at the wide end in harsh situations.

For less money, the B+W 67mm XS-PRO MRC-nano 010M, Nikon 67mm NC (No Color/Neutral Clear), Hoya 67mm NXT Plus UV and Hoya 67mm UV MC are all excellent filters, but the Hoya HD3 is the toughest and the best. The AF drive is equipped with TAMRON’s linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) to enable high speed, high precision auto-focusing. Closeup shooting capabilities have also been improved and achieve an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.18m (7.1 in) at the 28mm wide end, and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7. The focus ring moves light and smooth enough for easy adjusting using Sony’s Direct Manual Focus mode, but is sensitive to accidental taps if you’re not careful. The Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 has no visible distortion as shot with the default distortion correction activated.

A standard zoom is a common favourite with photographers who’d like a versatile lens that’s suitable for everyday use. Their effective focal range starts at a moderate wide angle that reaches through to a mild or moderate telephoto and they fall into one of three categories – entry level, mid range or professional. Personally I find that the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 has an optimum level of sharpness between f/4 and f/5.6, but I still tend to use it mostly at f/2.8-f/3.5 for some reason that I cannot explain. Note that the 24-70 L hood does not extend while both the Sigma and Tamron hoods extend with the lensGiven the fast and constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III VXD G2 is quite a large lens but also surprisingly light, measuring almost 12cms in length but weighing in at only 540g, some 10g less than the original version. A non-camera body manufacturer brand, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di Lens is available in Canon (reviewed), Minolta, Nikon and Pentax mounts. The lens is supplied with plastic lens caps and a plastic flower-shaped lens hood (HA063) - there's no lens bag included. The filter size is 67mm. Focal Range AF-operation of the Tamron 28-75 G2 is inaudible if you record video with the built-in microphone. In photo mode you can hear a slight noise from the outside.

Pier, Pacific Beach, California, 4:15 PM, Friday, 10 June 2022. Nikon Z9, Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 at 28mm at f/11 at 1/ 80 at Auto ISO 64 ( LV13.9), Perfectly Clear. bigger or full resolution 45MP file (10MB). Crop from above image at f/11. If this is 6" wide on your screen, the complete image printed at this same magnification would be 40 x 60." (1 x 1.5 meters.) If you’re out and about shopping and you decide to compare a cheaper third-party product to a professional high end native variation, you’d probably expect it to be a chalk and cheese type of comparison. It won’t take long for those who buy it to realise that they’ve made a great choice. It’s ideal for general shooting provided you enable in-camera lens corrections and don’t want to shoot too wide. Importantly, it’s not heavy or cumbersome either. Tamron has got the balance just right and I envisage it being in popular demand of new Sony A7 III users who might be on the lookout for the perfect walkabout lens.Distortion in the Tamron 28-75 is typical (not worse, not better) for a decent quality normal zoom lens - Tamron was apparently very much aware of this requirement, as they employed an iris diaphragm with 9 rounded blades for a pleasing rendering of the out-of-focus highlights. Based on what we have seen, we can say that they largely succeeded.
