Prefacing by saying I've never had a Lego train before; so I know very little about this area of Lego. I would like a steam engine with coaches; and as far as I know, Emerald Night is the only official Lego set like that. I have seen tons of amazing steam engine mocs, but haven't found any with free instructions that are similar to the Emerald Night. So EN it is, then. Since it's my first train, I should start smaller anyway.

For some reason there is no gap under the rails and the sleepers, which are formed of dark brown 1x4 tiles between the rails and 1x1 plates on the outside, do not go underneath them. Nevertheless, it looks OK.Creator Expert trains are among the most sought after and expensive sets on the secondary market so, with a seemingly obvious demand for them, it's perhaps surprising that LEGO makes so few of them. The release of 10277 Crocodile Locomotive, seven years after the last one, is thus long overdue. Of course, AFOLs have built bigger and arguably more accurate and detailed models of this, and many other iconic locomotives, but I think this one strikes just the right balance between size and practicality.

I completely agree on this - and I must say, it has become increasingly comfortable for me to do so. Folks do 3D print pieces that don't exist - and well, there is good acceptance and even the purist don't comply - as no LEGO piece was harmed. Then there are the professional injection molders - and well, folks go nuts about the quality. That said, it is my biased hope that this is the beginning of a new, regular line of elegantly-designed Expert-level, "18+" train sets. And if the history with the Technic supercars can teach us anything, it's that the next trains will be even more impressive and desirable, leaving this one (as pioneering and wonderful as it is) in the proverbial dust, desirable really only to completists.I was not aware you could mix PU and PF systems. So, I could get the PU hub (to use the app) and connect to the original PF motors? Hmm still looks ugly for a train , why not Puffing Billy From Melb Australia , it would look fantastic as a display piece with a bridge and a bit of forest

Tomorrow I will discuss motorising the locomotive with both Powered Up, for which it's been designed, and also Power Functions, for which it has not. To add to the Reddish Brown brittle debate, I took apart my UCS Sandcrawler a couple of months ago and got a few 1x1 tile clips that broke on me, but that could be why that part was redesigned a couple of years ago. I was almost dreading taking it apart, as I'd heard tales of loads of that part breaking, but thankfull I only had a few which did." This is an updated version of the carriage of 10194. I replaced all of the outdated pieces with cheaper ones. Also, there's no need to update the Metroliner. It's the perfect LEGO train set. It has everything. It offers much more play value than 60197 (doors, windows, lights, more minifigs, beds, an engine and a much longer platform) and doesn't look too much like a shoe box on wheels even with it's not too over the top front pieces. All they'd have to do is replace the 9V stuff with Powered Up. Done. For the Emerald Night, you could also use PUp with the Crocodile's control program in the powered up app. For that you just need a hub (88009 ) and an L-Motor (88 013 ).

This would look great in my grandad’s office. He likes trains a lot and has a very large model railway in his garage. Might be an idea for Christmas if the whole family puts some money towards it, I’d it stays on the shelves that long... This is also the first train to have the new "large train wheels", four of them moulded with a flange and two of them moulded blind. The flanged wheels include a rubber band for traction when the Power Functions motor is installed. The blind wheels are made so the train can navigate standard LEGO curves. This classically-styled train features a steam locomotive with furnace, opening tender, dining car with removable roof, opening doors and detailed interior! Most Lego sets are suited to play with from age 4 and up, because of the small parts they include. The special Duplo theme is suited for children aged 1,5 and up. The recommended age is always mentioned on the box. Still doesn't mean that any serious redesign would be required. Not at all. Swapping those few bits out is super easy. Especially with the updated 6x28 baseplate with it's larger holes for the Power Functions connectors.

I may just do a custom red or blue one and replace the carriage windows with the standard non-train ones. Even the worlds first electric railway , which was in the US in 1895, used a train that looked like a mini-crocodile. Would dark green have been better? Perhaps, but then 10194 Emerald Night was dark green so using it again was unlikely. The gaps between the cab and nose sections is too big. I understand it's needed to run curves, but in the side view it's ugly. LEGO Train Projects. Authored by Charles Pritchett. Published by No Starch Press, 2020. ISBN 978-1-71850-048-8.
