You can easily create masking fluid at home with latex fabric paint and some water. Pour equal amounts of water and latex fabric cement into a container that can be closed and become airtight. Gently mix the fabric cement and water together with a spoon to prevent creating bubbles. If you would like your masking fluid to have a tint or color, you can simply mix small amounts of watercolor paint into the fluid until you are satisfied. To prevent the contents of the bottle from drying I usually pour a small amount of masking fluid into a ceramic dish and cap the bottle immediately. How to Remove Masking Fluid

A couple different ways that I apply masking fluid, is with a great little tool called an incredible nib.

3. Grumbacher Miskit Liquid Frisket

You can also go behind him a little bit and paint behind those masked areas, bringing them out even more. This is any kind of bottle with a nozzle at the tip for squeezing out the frisket. It sounds like a good idea for applying the liquid with precision but I have not had great experience with this method. I much prefer having one of the above tools which I feel gives me much more control. Masking fluid creates a protective barrier on your watercolor paper to prevent the paper from being colored by paint. The main ingredient in masking fluid is liquid latex. Most products you can find are tinted with coloring to provide a better contrast on white paper, making it easier to see where you are painting the mask. Remove masking fluid three to four hours after you have applied it, do not leave for days as it will become difficult to remove. I'm just creating some different shapes there for my daisies. I want some nice big white petals sitting out here.

Masking fluid works very well to preserve white areas on your paper, but these areas can have a hard edge, which give an unnatural look to your finished painting. To prevent this, soften the edges with a stiff damp brush. Finding the best masking fluid for your watercolor art is important, and if you are a novice in watercolors, you might not know what to look for when purchasing a liquid masking fluid. There are various features to consider and below are a few you should look out for. Don’t use the masking fluid on damp paper. There’s a risk that the masking fluid will seep into the paper and you can damage the paper when you remove it. Masking fluid is slightly tinted making it easier to see on a white substrate. It is typically applied using a brush. The brush size would depend on the size area that you are masking. It’s important to not use one of your better brushes as masking fluid has been known to ruin a good brush, even with a thorough cleaning with soapy water. I typically have a brush designated specifically for masking fluid… one that I don’t plan to use for painting.

2. Fineline Masking Fluid Pen

In 2005, Charlene completed her wellness degrees in therapeutic aromatherapy and reflexology at the International School of Reflexology and Meridian Therapy. She worked for a company offering corporate wellness programs for several years before opening her own therapy practice. In 2015, she was asked by a digital marketer friend to join her company as a content creator, and it was here that she discovered her enthusiasm for writing. Since entering the world of content creation, she has gained a lot of experience over the years writing about various topics such as beauty, health, wellness, travel, crafting, and much more. Due to various circumstances, she had to give up her therapy practice and now works as a freelance writer. Since she is a very creative person and as a balance to writing likes to be active in various areas of art and crafts, the activity at acrylgiessen.com is perfect for her to contribute their knowledge and experience in various creative topics. The best method I have found for removing masking fluid is with a kneadable eraser (also called a putty rubber). These things are great because you can mold them to the shape you want for more precise erasing and they don’t leave any residue on the paper. Rub the edges of the dried masking with the eraser to start lifting off the mask then peel off with your fingers.
