However, many players who played Le Havre after Agricola preferred Le Havre. It lasts longer and gives players more time to accomplish their goals. In comparison to Agricola, Le Havre is a more varied game, although it has fewer cards and simpler game mechanics. But there are also vibrant orange rooftops, which offer a subtle warmer ambience to proceedings. There are 33 Standard buildings and 36 Special buildings. For each game, only 6 Special buildings are laid out. Design In addition to the Supply and Main actions, a player can buy one or more Building and/or Ship cards at any time during his own turn (even before taking the Supply action or Main action).

This description alone, unfairly, is sometimes enough for people to predetermine whether or not they are going to like Le Havre. It’s true, a number of Rosenberg’s games have similar mechanics. If you’ve played the likes of Agricola and Caverna, then you’ll understand the accumulation spaces’ appeal. There are two stages in the game: Round stage and Final stage. Each round consists of 7 turns (so, during one round different players make different numbers of turns). During the Final stage, all players carry out their final actions. Round stage The overall gameplay of Le Havre is simple. A players turn consits of two parts: first you resupply the resource fields and afterwards carry out one action. Available actions are e. g. taking all resources of the same kind from one field or using the abillity of a already build building. Using buildings the player can refine or convert goods, sell goods or build ships or buildings. They are not only an investment, but can actually generate income as using buildings from another player costs a fee. Ships on the other hand a mainly used to get food for your workers. Each round consits of seven player actions and is finished by a harvest phase in which players gain agricultural products and need to feed their workers. After a certain amount of rounds (depending on player count and game mode) every player is allowed to do one last action before the game ends. Buildings and ships have a financial value which is added to the players wealth. In the end, the player with the most money wins. No, if you want to be able to read the cards, handle lots of quality game pieces, and prefer in-person interactions.

Starting Buildings: The green Construction Firm card and the two Building Firm cards are removed from the pile of building cards and placed beside the game boards. These buildings were constructed before the start of the game and belong to the town. Le Havre provides a very satisfying gaming experience for someone who likes economic strategies. The variety of possible tactics used by players and combinations of the cards is so rich the game does not become dull even after you have played it several times. There are no clear instructions on how to win the game: even for an experienced player every turn of Le Havre holds so many possibilities the best one is never obvious. Remember: Each Franc counts as 1 Food. Players can pay all or part of their food requirement in Francs. New buildings can be built using the "Construction Firm" and the two "Building Firms". At the start of the game, these buildings are owned by the town. A player who enters one of these buildings can build any of the top buildings in the Building Proposals area by paying the building costs of the new building.During each player's first action, new goods arrive in the harbor and are placed on the corresponding Offer space. The game takes place over several years and players will need to acquire materials, build ships and buildings, and feed their workers.

I bought this game to see if I wanted to buy the hard copy of it. I want to find a light game that my girl friend and I can play together so we can get a break from Carcassonne. In Le Havre, a player’s turn consists of two parts: First, distribute newly supplied goods onto the offer spaces; then take an action. As an action, players may choose either to take all goods of one type from an offer space or to use one of the available buildings. Building actions allow players to upgrade goods, sell them or use them to build their own buildings and ships. Buildings are both an investment opportunity and a revenue stream, as players must pay an entry fee to use buildings that they do not own. Ships, on the other hand, are primarily used to provide the food that is needed to feed the workers.

You wont be able to do both on every turn you have, so the way to success is to plan what offers you should claim or what buildings to use so that you will be able to build and buy buildings and ships as often as possible.
