First, I turned to my dehydrator. It works great for drying herbs from my herb garden in a day. And a dehydrator isn’t half bad at drying peppers and orange slices, either. As for flowers, the results were – meh. The dehydrator shrank the flowers a lot and twisted the petals. So they didn’t look pressed at all. The size and capacity of a potential flower press are something else you’ll want to consider. Ask yourself, how many pressed flowers would you like to make at once? Were you just thinking of pressing a few, or would you like a larger amount for crafts and artwork?

The kit includes a 10 x 10cm (~4 x 4 in) press, corrugated cardboard, blotting paper, plastic screws/wing nuts, trinket boxes, greeting cards, envelopes, bookmarks, and every supply you’ll need to assemble all of the projects it contains. Again, you will place the flower between two pieces of blotting paper. Then place a piece of cardboard on either side, followed by the wood or MDF. Step 3: Screw in the bolts, and wait 2-4 weeks for flowers to dry

Place the blooms on top of a piece of paper towel or on one side of a cotton rag. However you place your blooms will be exactly how they dry, so make sure petals are flat and smoothed out.

This complete kit is ideal for crafters ages five and up and is a wonderful way to get children in touch with nature and their creative side. If you already enjoy flower pressing projects, getting this kit for your child or younger family members is a fantastic segue to exploring the activity together. Glassine sheets. Some flower presses will use glassine sheets rather than parchment paper, claiming that it’s superior. In the end, it all comes down to what you prefer. Choose flowers that are still in bud form or have just bloomed. If you are not ready to press them straight away you can put them in the freezer, in an airtight container, until you are ready. Step 2: Arrange flowers to be pressed

To create perfectly dried and flattened flowers, you’ll need more than just a good flower press. You’ll also need the proper absorbent paper, not to mention scissors and a few other useful supplies. It’s the perfect choice if your main hobbies are jewelry-making, candle-making, resin art, or similar, and don’t want to keep your projects on hold for weeks while waiting for flowers to dry. However you intend to press your flowers, just make sure to lay them on the lining paper the way you want them to dry. Use tweezers to unfold and spread out petals carefully. And don’t overlap flowers – leave space in between.
