This book made me think about history and want to learn more. My mum's friend races pigeons and and they used to help bring messages in war time we are going to see them and see how they used to do this and how they were trained. While living in Meadow Ridge, Mrs. Waverley buys Shirley a white blouse, a bottle green tunic, and brown leather shoes to wear for school, which she does. I have already bought/read over 6 books of this author and more being released every year. I would like to know how many evacuees ran away from their selected homes and how many didn't go home.

Medley: This is the Army Mister Jones (from "This is the Army") - F.D.R. Jones (from "The Little Do… I really enjoyed reading Wave Me Goodbye. I particularly liked Archie because of the way he talks and also because he doesn't know his animals and they do, which I found funny! Hmmm it’s strange how she can write such wonderful characters and well paced plots sometimes, then other times it’s kinda just generic. It was really fun at points when Archie was running about in the striped jumper and then when they were playing as soldiers and when Shirley showed them her knife. The author is glowing with health when we first meet at the launch of her 106th novel Wave Me Goodbye. She underwent a kidney transplant more than two years ago after exhausting weekly dialysis treatment.

This one is set in WW2 as children were being evacuated to the countryside. I thought it would be quite sad but really it was more silly and predictable. In 2008 Jacqueline suffered heart failure and had a defibrillator fitted. Her kidneys were damaged. She admits the dialysis often made her tired. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - With [creating] characters I find it quite easy because I made up so many imaginary friends when I was a little girl because I didn’t have any siblings,” says the divorced mother of one.

You think, if you’re tethered to a bed having treatment all that time and you don’t feel too terrible, best to make the most of it.”My favourite character is Shirley Smith (The main character) she loves books and can't put them down (like me). She has a very bright imagination, and can imagine any character from any of her books and make them come to life. Now I feel like I'm being a bit insensitive, it's interesting for me but was often sad and horrible for them! Must have been incredibly difficult to be separated from your parents at such a young age with no idea whether you'd see them again. And lots never did. This book was both worrying to read and exciting. I would like to read more Jacqueline Wilson books. September, 1939. As the Second World War begins, ten-year-old Shirley is sent away on a train with her schoolmates. She doesn't know where she's going, or what's going to happen to her when she gets there. All she has been told is that she's going on 'a little holiday'. Shirley is billeted in the country, with two boys from East End London, Kevin and Archie - and their experiences living in the strange, half-empty Red House, with the mysterious and reclusive Mrs Waverley, will change their lives for ever.

This book's illustrations were fantastic. It seemed as if the picture I had in my head of the characters had been projected onto paper and been put in the story. It also showed you a more in-depth look at what the characters were feelings by their expression on their faces or the way their body was positioned.Enjoyable, easy read- can never go wring with a children's book, particularly if it's written by Jacqueline Wilson. Join Kevin, Shirley and Archie on an adventure in the country side. They are all very adventurous children but some things go wrong after they arrive. This was supposed to be a holiday for Shirley (as her Mum called it that,) but instead it turned out to be a mixture of clumsiness, embarrassment and danger. SAS Rogue Heroes is airing each Sunday on BBC One until December 4 while all episodes are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer. When ten year old Shirley thinks she's going on holiday to the country she thinks her Mum is going too, until it dawns she's going alone, evacuated because of the imminent war.
