The main role of the coroner service is to scrutinise local deaths where, for various reasons, a doctor is unable to issue a medical certificate of cause of death, or because a person’s death was in some way unnatural or suspicious. If you are visiting, please let us know if you have any particular needs, such as interpreting assistance.Once a death has been reported to the coroner, the registrar cannot go ahead with the registration until the coroner has decided whether any further investigation is necessary.
