While all of this is certainly worth celebrating if you’re a Star Wars fan who has been waiting to own physical copies of the earlier films in 4K UHD, you should know that the original trilogy films will only be available as the edited versions on Disney+, not the original theatrical cuts. That means you’ll have to endure the less-certain status of Han’s showdown with Greedo in the highest resolution possible.

The 4K disc of The Last Jedi is newly authored—it no longer includes Dolby Vision HDR (per Disney’s new norm). All of the Blu-rays in the set are newly-authored discs—they are not the same as those released previously. The Last Jedi movie Blu-ray now includes the Score-only version of the film and its Bonus Blu-ray now includes the Meet the Porgs retail exclusive featurette. Most (but not quite all) of the previous Blu-ray special features are included in this set. Most of the previous DVD special features are not included—and of course, the original unaltered theatrical cuts of Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi are not included. Before you ask, yes, sadly, it's the George Lucas tweaked Special Editions of the original trilogy, so you'll have to blink at just the right moment if you still want Han to shoot first.We are all familiar with the issues that the previous Blu-ray release had, well you can pretty much banish that disc from your collection, as this new scan blows it away. But this is a treat – until this point, only the newer movies The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story have been made available in 4K, and none offered the premium Dolby Vision viewing experience. Unfortunately, Rogue One, Solo and Episode VIII: The Last Jedi aren’t yet on the new service.
