Coaxial or S-video cable connections do not support higher resolution, ensure to set the resolution to 800 x 600 or less. HDMI splitters are fairly simple devices, but they don’t all have the same capabilities. First and foremost, figure out how many video-out ports you need. Personally, I’d suggest mapping out your exact setup, including the positions of each monitor or TV and the video source, as well as a cable management plan for your HDMI cables. Well, there are different types of adapters available in today’s market. Some popular ones include DisplayPort to HDMI adapters, VGA to HDMI adapters, USB to HDMI adapters, Type-C Video adapters, and many more.

Unlike HDMI splitters, adapters don’t just mirror your PC but also help you extend your display. This is probably the best device you can use as it helps you connect HDMI and any other cable supported by your monitor. Moreover, an HDMI splitter becomes useless when you do not have additional HDMI cables. So, this even adds up to your bill as you need multiple wires if you’re trying to connect multiple monitors. Thus, we recommend using some other techniques listed below. Use HDMI AdaptersHDMI ports offer high bandwidth, which is ideal for gaming. Thus, many consoles like Playstation and Xbox support HDMI cables.

Most new electronic devices, like laptops, monitors, and televisions, are guaranteed to have at least one HDMI port. In fact, manufacturers have stopped integrating older ports, such as a VGA, in some new devices. That said, there is also a category of HDMI adapters that can plug into a laptop via USB Type-A, USB-C, or Mini DisplayPort, and output to two monitors. These adapters will give you a more robust set of display options, including an extended desktop across multiple displays. (They can also mirror your laptop across multiple displays.) Usually, these accessories will be called adapters, because they take one connection type and convert it into another. In some cases, they will also be called HDMI splitters, either because that’s what people expect them to be called, or because they want to make our lives harder. Let’s be honest: who doesn’t want to work on a big screen? If you love to play games, you’ll likely get bored when you’re limited to your small laptop screen. Most of us use HDMI cables to run dual monitors as they transmit high-quality video and sound. But, what if our PC has got only a single port? Often, we scratch our heads to find a possible solution for this. To see the available settings in Windows 11 or Windows 10, go to the Settings app, select System, and then choose Display. Well, the simplest method is to use an HDMI port for one monitor and any other port for the second screen. This way, you do not need to buy an external device for running dual monitors. However, this technique will only work if your second monitor and PC share the same port.

If you need to split your image among eight displays, Tripp Lite makes the splitter for the job. It’s considerably more expensive than the others but it’s also capable of outputting a video source to eight screens in 4K at up to 60Hz. It’s a suitably heavy-duty unit with all-metal construction, and it even comes with mounting hardware if you want to attach it to a wall or a desktop. After connecting your external monitors, you can change settings such as resolution, screen layout, and more. Once you've found it, plug the end of the HDMI splitter into this port. Then, plug the two HDMI cables into the splitter. Most Graphics Card supports dual monitors. However, if you’re using an older GPU model, it may not allow you to set up multiple displays.Knowing if your monitors support MST tells you if the monitor supports daisy chain using DisplayPort cables or if you must use two different kinds of video cables. An HDMI splitter takes the signal from a single source (like a streaming device, game console, or 4K Blu-ray player) and sends it to TVs or monitors, so you can watch the same image on many screens at once. However, it's rarely that simple. Unless you have a very new laptop and very new monitors, you'll probably need a bit more to make this work:

Like we said, a lot of people, including manufacturers and retailers, play it fast and loose with A/V terms like “HDMI splitters.” Technically, HDMI splitters turn one HDMI signal into many identical HDMI signals. It’s HDMI end-to-end, and all they can do is mirror the screen. Lastly, you’ll find that some HDMI splitters require an independent power source, while others feature internal power. The latter can be more convenient and may be sufficient in some cases, but we recommend using a splitter with a dedicated power source, as they generally work more reliably. Next, connect one end of each cable to a monitor. However, if your monitors have different inputs (e.g., one has DisplayPort while the other has HDMI), you must use the correct cable/adapter for each monitor.

Interestingly, HDMI is also integrated into home theater systems. Hence, we can use them for playing music and watching movies of superior quality. If you have a laptop with multiple Thunderbolt/USB-C ports but older monitors that don't have Thunderbolt input, you'll need some sort of adapter for each monitor, like this USB-C to HDMI or this USB-C to DVI adapter. Remember, you'll need one adapter for each monitor you're connecting.
