Description

The writing flows as fingers point in different directions. The twists and tension filled scenes had me on edge and wondering who was the guilty one. The Bloody Heart Killer is on the loose in Los Angeles. Six 17 year old young men have been killed. Mutilated, really. Until one of them makes an escape. His finger pointed at his high school teacher Randall Thompson. This is one of those stories that starts out with many threads, but they all slowly converge into a cohesive tale. I particularly enjoyed that this thriller is a little different from others I've read. The plot is unique and fresh, with interesting elements combining in ways I haven't seen before. And of course, the twists in the end felt surprising and thoroughly satisfying.

The Good Lie by A. R. Torre Book Review by The Book Lit The Good Lie by A. R. Torre Book Review by The Book Lit

Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist. She treats the worse kind of patient. She treats the ones who have urges to harm others. Gwen tries to guide them into a place where they can self-control these fantasies. However, a recent client and his wife are dead and now the police want to talk to her about it. At the same time, Robert Kavin, a defense attorney, wants her to come up with a profile for the Bloody Heart Killer and Randall. There is one caveat, Robert is the father of the sixth victim and he believes the man is innocent. While everyone was persuaded by the suspect inception in the murders; Robert Kavin, an attorney —father of one of the victims— was adamant about his innocence and acted as his advocate. What did he knew that wasn’t that transparent through the storytelling? As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret. i honestly was not expecting this to be so good. i havent read anything by AT before, but im pretty sure she was predominately a romance author, so i was intrigued to see how she would handle mystery/crime. and she does it well - its a good look for her. Ever since I was first introduced to A.R. Torre, I've been hooked on her writing, and this was another fascinating premise and fast-paced ride! I loved the aspects of tortured and dangerous will-they-won't-they love she included as part of the plot and the narrative certainly pointed every which way toward the potential BH Killer! I changed my mind several times while reading, and the twists were unexpected to say the least! One in particular towards the end caught me completely off guard and while it proved to be a bit of a fake out, got my blood pumping!

The incident with Luke and the stolen keys didn’t add much to the story because we find out from Rob anyways that Randall’s MO was young girls. And the lost keys only led to Gwen running to Rob. I understand the need to throw red herrings and distractions but this didn’t really add anything to the story overall. Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own. Gwen’s thoughts on whether Randall was guilty or not got a bit drawn out. It was too clear to the reader that it wasn’t him, so it made Gwen’s bias seem more silly to me rather than interesting. I was thinking, omg just realise it already! The last couple of chapters were a bit rushed due to the short lengh of this book. A.R. Torre could have easily written a couple of more chapters, which would have been beneficial to the characters and story overall.

Review: The Good Lie by A.R. Torre – Always With a Book Review: The Good Lie by A.R. Torre – Always With a Book

A.R. Torre writes with an attention to detail like few others. Her characters feel like “real people” who you could meet on the street the next day. Everything they say and do feels so authentic. It’s definitely one of her strengths. The latest victim is able to escape, and identifies the killer as Randall Thompson, a teacher at his high school. With Randall in prison, all should be good...except Defense attorney Robert Kavin doesn’t believe Randall is guilty. Robert decides to represent him pro bono, but what makes things more complex is that Robert’s son, Gabe, was a victim of the Bloody Heart Killer. Thanks! That means so much to me! It might still be on NG, if you’re interested. I am hoping Every Last Secret works out for you. I’m a little concerned about one of the pieces of it, but I think you might enjoy the way it’s done. I guess I’ll find out! Buzzing with excitement, she doesn’t hesitate while accepting the offer. Even when she knows that there’s a conflict of interest. But there’s one problem: she is not quite confident with her assessment as she used to be, before her client had died of suicide or murder. But the case is a historic one, and it is a big moment for her career.Ever since I was first introduced to A.R. Torre, I've been hooked on her writing, and this was another fascinating premise and fast-paced ride! I loved the aspects of tortured and dangerous will-they-won't-they love she included as part of the plot and the narrative certainly pointed every which way toward the potential BH K The story begins with the latest victim of the Bloody Heart killer coming home after escaping. We also meet Gwen Moore, a psychiatrist who specializes in killers. I have to say I really liked this character and she's the reason why my rating is rounded up instead or down. She often has to face moral dilemmas because of her work and that was very interesting. Dr. Gwen Moore is a psychiatrist who is an expert on killers, she treats dangerous predators every day, and she's hired to profile The Bloody Heart Killer, a serial killer who kidnaps, tortures, strangles and mutilates teenage boys. I was really hooked onto this one right from the first chapter because there is something very special about heinous and gruesome crimes which fascinates me a lot and I love reading about them.

Review: The Good Lie (A.R. Torre) – A Novel Glimpse Review: The Good Lie (A.R. Torre) – A Novel Glimpse

Kavin hires Gwen, who he met previously, to evaluate Thompson and provide him with a profile that can be used in court. As they become closer, questions are raised, by the characters plus, I had a few of my own as well. Is there a conflict of interest here? Imagine you're a psychiatrist. You have clients, you hear their darkest fears, you try to leave your misgivings at the door when you leave the office for the day, perhaps you feel you've made a difference in the world. But now you can go home to peace and serenity.I loved how you reviewed this! Such a clever way to frame it to avoid possible spoilers and still tells us what to expect from the book. I hope to try this one some day. I just started Every Last Secret today. This book was .... average. But that's fine, cause I didn't expect anything less after reading Project Hail Mary. I knew every book I'd read afterwards wouldn't give me that same serotine rush.
