Some of the terminology used in the touchscreen was a bit different from what most of us are accustomed to using. For example, in the main screen above we see “Percentage”. This is actually what most would call “Tuning”, and it allows you to tweak the speeds and feeds. MINGDA provides a couple of tiny coils of PLA with the Magician X. Personally, I don’t like these because they seem to immediately tangle as soon as you open them. Nevertheless, I used this filament as my initial material. Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a soft and flexible thermoplastic that is commonly used in 3D printing for prosthetic parts, cell phone cases, and other items that need to be elastic. TPU filament is more difficult to print than PLA or ABS because it has a very low glass transition temperature. The manufacturer specifies 200 millimeters per second as the maximum print speed for the Magician X. However, 60 to 80 millimeters per second is recommended for good results.

The first layer is extremely important in 3D printing because it is the foundation for the rest of the print. It is very important that the first layer is printed correctly because problems with it will be magnified later in the print. A direct competitor to the Magician X* is the Anycubic Vyper*, which you should therefore also take a closer look at. The devices are almost identical in terms of specifications and the price of the Vyper is also in the same range. A print bed temperature that is set too high can cause the filament to warp. A print bed temperature that is too low can cause the first layer to not adhere properly to the print bed, which can result in poor print quality or a failed print. The Mingda Magician X can in principle be used together with just about any slicer software. The manual mentions Cura, Simplify 3D and Repetier-Host by name. Mingda includes the slicer Ultimaker Cura with its printer. You will find an installation file for Windows on the included SD card.The two SD card holders on the right side of the device are similarly practical as the tool compartment. Here you can store SD cards that you are not currently using. At first glance, you might almost think they are SD card slots, but the actual SD card slot is on the front. Ultra silent operation

The perfect starting point to do this are the verified default values for different filaments you will find in the next lines. From these starting values, you can further perfect your settings. You will learn how to do this later in the article. PLA Settings at a Glance Upon closer inspection, I realized there are no manual leveling adjustments on the Magician X. Underneath the bed there are no knobs or bolts to adjust the level, so leveling is truly entirely automated. Directly above the touchscreen is a small compartment where you can store all sorts of accessories. Even a pair of filament pliers should fit in here. However, you have to keep in mind that you cannot access the compartment during operation because the print bed moves over it.There are a few things to consider when printing the first layer: The first layer should be printed at a slower speed than the rest of the print. This gives the plastic more time to adhere to the build plate and prevents it from coming off as easily during printing. The Magician X 3D Printer is one of the few 3D printers we’ve seen that includes USB-3, SD, and USB-C ports. It also supports printing from an online connection. 3.5” LCD Touch Screen This is especially true for filament pliers, which are unfortunately not included with the Magician. Filament pliers not only help you to cut the filament cleanly. It also allows you to remove any unattractive features such as overhangs or print-related auxiliary constructs after printing. When you add the printer to your slicer, you can use the following settings. The Magician X has a nozzle size of 0.4 mm and is compatible with a material diameter of 1.75 mm. For the print size setting, specify 260 mm for the z-axis and 230 mm for both the x- and y-axes.

Let’s walk through an example workflow. Here we see the display of the contents of the SD card. This is in fact the SD card’s contents as received from MINGDA, which includes two pre-sliced test prints. But hold, on, there are TWO other SD card slots located on the top of the base, as shown here. I’ve never seen a 3D printer with more than one SD card slot! The structure and operation of the Magician are explained in a clear and easy-to-understand manual.

What I’d change
