The series was received positively. David Opie of Digital Spy argued that the series satiates the "endless need for adorable queer animation" and noting other animated series with queer-inclusive stories. [35] Abbey White of The Hollywood Reporter said the series isn't "typical" for animated series, noted the "racially-, gender- and sexuality-diverse cast" and argued the series smashes genres and is "equal parts comedy, horror and coming of age." [36] Ben Mitchell, the editor-in-chief of Skwigly called the series a "horror comedy...for younger audiences" and praised the well-developed characters and "incredible attention to detail" in production design. [37] Reuben Baron of Paste called the series "groundbreaking" and argued that U.S. senators Roger Marshall, Mike Lee, Mike Braun, Steve Daines, and Kevin Cramer demanded new content warnings because the series centers on a trans protagonist. Baron criticized the series for not capturing the "visual charm" of the DeadEndia comic and saying the series "tones down" some themes from the comic while praising the writing and treatment of autism in the series. [38]While Norma, Courtney and Pugsley lead a daring escape, Barney confronts the Watcher and tries to change the future. a b "Dead End Paranormal Park Season 2 comes to Netflix this October". io9: What lessons do you think you learned from your time creating Dead End that you brought to finishing out the DeadEndia trilogy? Were there any story threads you decided to change based on things the audience had responded to in Dead End? The story in the published graphic novels is largely the same as the one previously published online, but with some variations in details and plot points, as well as artwork improvements. Some of the key modifications include the setting, which changed from Winslow's Wonderland to Pollywood. According to Steele, previous updates to the online versions of the story - referred to as DeadEndia: The Original Run - are considered as non-canon. [3] DeadEndia follows the adventures of Barney and Norma, two humans who stumble upon the supernatural secrets of Dead End, an amusement park haunted house! Volume 2 of DEADENDIA features all the characters we've come to know and love/hate: Barney, Norma, Courtney, Badyah, Logan, Fingers, Kushiel, and Tartarus. We also gain a better (and more terrifying) understanding of the angels (read: not necessarily the "good guys," just the guys that live upstairs). Of course, one character is noticeably absent: dear Pugsley who, imho, stole the show in THE WATCHER'S TEST. THE BROKEN HALO is a bit drabber without him. (That said, I shrieked so hard at the ending that my cat jumped off my lap and ran out of the room. I KNEW IT!!!)
