Pause) Let me think… If you can give me the same question with manga, then I can give you an answer! Papillion, an old Steve McQueen movie with Dustin Hoffman [made in 1973, about a prison escape]. That's the thing, it really moved me. The manga delves into the intricacies of the yakuza underworld, shining lighting on the power dynamics, betrayals, and secrets that saturate this world. Yoneda skillfully inserts enough suspense, mystery, and dramatic bits in their story to keep readers engaged with their content. Australian Release List - Madman Entertainment Releases for March 2015". Anime News Network. March 11, 2015 . Retrieved November 3, 2017. Honnouji Academy ( 本能字学園, Honnōji Gakuen) is a fictional high school situated in Tokyo Bay, Japan, on the island of Honnō City. The school is dominated by its fearsome student council led by their president Satsuki Kiryuin. The students wear Goku Uniforms ( 極制服, Gokuseifuku) [c] which give their wearers superhuman abilities because they are constructed with a special material known as Life Fibers ( 生命戦維, Seimei Sen'i, lit. "Life Battle-Fibers"). Honnouji Academy and Honnō City feature a stratified class structure, in which higher-ranked students are allowed to obtain more powerful Goku Uniforms. This in turn affects the social status of the student's family. Ryūko successfully rips Junketsu off of her body without dying. She reunites with Senketsu and fights against Nui Harime, recovering both Scissor Blades. When Nui tries to stab her through the throat, Ryūko gets behind the Grand Couturier and chops her arms off. Although Nui puts on a show of pain and anger, the facade soon becomes real panic when Ryūko destroys the arms, severed thanks to the Scissor Blades. An enraged Nui is rescued by Rei Hōōmaru, to the former's anger. Ryūko's allies deal with the COVERS, extracting the School Club presidents and gathering the Life Fibers left behind.

This story is known for placing Shiki in morally gray scenarios. While his reasons for earning wealth are respectable, he’ll find himself getting overwhelmed with guilt and regret after each mission. The series’s creator, Yua Kotegawa, exceptionally shows how much of a burden it can be to kill someone for monetary gain. Moreover, Shiki’s actions will affect people close to his targets, causing more harm to his psyche than good. Outrageously entertaining violence … Fans of Kill Bill, Cowboy Bebop, or just gun-toting crime lords will find something to enjoy in this fast paced storyline”– Bleeding CoolA true manga tour de force, the two-part series follows the bloody and chaotic life of Ryuko, the head of a Yakuza crime family. Ryuko rules with an iron fist and with her ever-faithful sword at her side.

As a consequence although art is truly one of the better ones I saw in manga sometimes it is so shrouded in darkness and ink blots that it truly takes a lot of concentration to figure out what is going on. As a consequence reader will lose the thread and might be in ??? mode because story is standard Yakuza/Criminal/Revenge opera with great accent on action and movement and not that much on dialogs. So visual presentation counts. The artwork remains stellar with grandly embellished and over the top uses of framing and perspective, with nice pulp expressionist flourishes that feel really close to the manga equivalent of a Seijun Suzuki film. The art is a solid 4-4.5, easy. Really some of the most kinetically fun manga art I’ve seen (which may not mean much considering how little manga I’ve read, but there you go).

Beaten and faced with the confiscation of her Scissor Blade, Ryūko flees to her old home near the city. As she laments her weakness, Ryūko is dropped down a trapdoor by her homeroom teacher Aikurō Mikisugi, who had followed her against her knowledge. She lands in a large basement atop a massive pile of clothes. The blood from her reopened wound seeps into it and awakens a Kamui—a living sailor uniform—created by her father. The Kamui springs to life and forcefully puts itself on her, craving more of her blood. Ryūko discovers that the uniform possesses immense power, and names it Senketsu. I didn't think that contemporary art was accessible for everyone to understand the ideas. Film brings you some emotional reaction, it has drama and you can easily share the experience and the feeling with your friends after watching a film. I didn't think you can do that after seeing my artwork. Only the people working in the art industry can share the experience. It’s 2019 and manga is where it’s at. While the North American comic book industry continues to disappoint, manga is more popular than ever. Teaser trailer reveals Kill la Kill game, published by Arc System Works". Destructoid . Nui and Ragyō invite Ryūko to face them at Honnōji Academy. Aikurō Mikisugi warns Ryūko that it's a trap, but she doesn't listen and destroys his DTR. She tells him that she's tired of following him around, and how she hates him for not telling her the truth about her past all along. Mako tries one last time to get Ryūko to wear Senketsu, but fails. Aikurō tries to follow Ryuko to explain that he did not know the truth about her past but is stopped by Tsumugu Kinagase. Ryūko leaves for Honnōji Academy on a motorcycle. When Hard Case Crime announced it was translating this book for an American audience, the publicity articles invariably compared it to Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. It is shame that Eldo did not learn from Tarantino how to ground his martial arts revenge tale by first establishing the audience's sympathy with one or two lead characters.

Se trata de un dibujo muy personal, a veces muy detallado y otras con simples rayones, y bastante oscuro, muy acorde con la trama.
