Description

With the recent release of the Leagues of Votann, we’re going to take a look at some different methods for getting your vertically-challenged space-capitalists ready for war. We’ll be focusing on the five major Leagues covered in the Codex to start with, and in this article we’re going to zoom in on the master armourers of the Ymyr Conglomerate. Cronch’s Method

Games Workshop hasn’t announced when the Leagues of Votann Codex for Warhammer 40k 10th edition is due out. It won’t be before Summer 2024, as GW has already confirmed the Codex releases up until Spring. This kit can alternatively be built as a standard Kâhl, a powerful leader for Kinhosts of any League.* Grimnyr Einhyr Champions wear modified exo-armour outfitted with a technology known as a mass driver accelerator that allows them to move their great armoured bulk for short periods with intense speed.

Each time an enemy unit destroys a VOTANN unit from your army, that enemy unit gains 1 Judgement token. For the Autoch-pattern combi-bolter, use a similar metallic shade as in the previous step. Paint the main body and barrel with colors like Leadbelcher or Runelord Brass. Don’t forget to add subtle highlights to mimic the play of light on the metal. I hope these observations will help as you plan your Boarding Patrols and wage war in the twisted corridors of space hulks – good hunting!

Highlights done, it was time for finishing touches. The visor was painted with Thousand Sons Blue, and glazed with Ahriman Blue and Temple Guard Blue to highlight, before adding hard edge highlights and glare lines of Blue Horror and Vallejo Model Color White (any white would do).

In 10th edition, enemy units will only gain a Judgment token when they destroy a Votann unit – that’s a lot more miserly than in 9th edition, when tokens were handed out like party treats. The effect of the tokens is also restricted. Votann units get +1 to hit enemy units with one Judgment token, and an additional +1 to wound targets with two tokens. Those are great buffs, but compared to 9th edition, when enough Judgment tokens turned half of your hits into automatic wounds, they’re not so impressive. Danny Porter – Leagues of Votann: Lots of Sagitaurs and 20 Hearthguard with two big slabs of Pioneers- I think this may become more popular as Danny has a way of shaping the Votann approach almost singlehanded… It’s still a shooting army, and volume is king: The current Votann range is small and will see expansion down the line. At this moment in time the most effective units in the Index are shooting ones. Hearthguard, Thunderkyn, Sagitaurs and Land Fortresses all boast enough volume shooting to mitigate reductions in accuracy (most of the army is now Ballistic Skill 4+ base, but Hearthguard remained at 3+). You can boost this with judgement tokens, but as we will get to in a moment, you can’t count on this as much as you used to. A Votann army can put out an enormous amount of firepower, and this remains key to victory.

This kit contains 20 multi-part Tactical Marines with options for two squad Sergeants – each able to equip a power sword, power fist, lightning claw, and plasma pistol. It also includes a sheet of 293 transfers for the Sons of Horus and Imperial Fists Legions, and can be fielded either as a single 20-man squad or two 10-man squads. Exemplary Battles of the Age of Darkness: Volume IThor has gone for quality over quantity, providing us with this gorgeous Theyn from a Hearthkyn Warrior unit, armed with an EtaCarn plasma pistol and a mighty concussion gauntlet. The orange armour is set off by the searing blue of the plasma coils and visor. Pete Harrison Their relentless forward advance is a blend of unstoppable force and calculated precision, as they not only lead the charge but also rain down explosive shells from their Autoch-pattern combi-bolter.

Mighty heroes fight at the forefront of battle. Some CHARACTER units have ‘Leader’ listed on their datasheets. Such CHARACTER units are known as Leaders, and the units they can lead – known as their Bodyguard units – are listed on their datasheet. This datasheet, as well as the weapon stats for the dwarf-portable SP Conversion Beamer, also reveal the new ‘Conversion’ Weapon Ability. Weapons with this key-word will inflict Critical Hits on a to-hit roll of 4+ against targets 12” or more away. Critical Hits are used to trigger other weapon abilities, which in the case of the SP Conversion Beamer is an additional D3 hits from its Sustained Hits D3 ability. Otherwise these are a great kit, and I’m looking forward to getting mine painted up. Brôkhyr Iron-master Ranchen Li – Leagues of Votann: A Votann build that can go all-in on transports and board presence as required, with the Hearthguard running in fives for Land Fort compatibility. Excellent. Do the Leagues of Votann have psykers? Yes! The Grimnyr is kind of like a techno-psyker; they have a particular cloned trait that lets them interact with the warp, but they also use ‘barrier technology’ (including special AI drones called CORVs) to do it more safely. It’s also the jobof each League’s Grimnyr to interface with its Votann Ancestor Core using arcane technology. The kit also includes components to upgrade the Sicaran Venator with a searchlight, a hunter-killer missile, and cosmetic options such as towing hooks, icons for Loyalists and Traitors, and a choice of a Space Marine gunner, spotter, or closed hatch.
