Truth: Antibiotics should be given one at a time. Giving two or more at the same time can overload the kidneys and cause renal failure, especially with high doses of strong antibiotics, such as metronidazole and vancomycin. Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicinal product is important. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product. Healthcare professionals are asked to report any suspected adverse reactions via Yellow Card Scheme. Adrenaline is rapidly inactivated in the body, mostly in the liver by the enzymes catechol-O- methyltransferase (COMT) and monoamine oxidase (MAO). Most of a dose of adrenaline is excreted as metabolites in urine. Truth: The most important strategy nurses can use to avoid pain and complications is to ensure that the I.V. is patent, with a good blood return. You also should see no swelling or signs of vein irritation, such as redness and warmth. Administer the medication in the correct form and push it over the proper amount of time, as advised by the manufacturer. The I.V. catheter should be the appropriate size for the vessel. (See next Myth.)

Endotracheal use should only be considered as a last resort if no other route of administration is accessible, at a dose of 20 to 25 ml of the 1:10,000 solution (2 to 2.5 mg). Adrenaline may cause or exacerbate hyperglycaemia, blood glucose should be monitored, particularly in diabetic patients.

Truth: Unfortunately, many nurses erroneously believe this to be true. To ensure proper dosing, use a syringe that’s the appropriate size for the administration of I.V. push medications via a venous access device. A 10-mL syringe is needed only to assess the patency of the device, not for administering medications. Educational programs must stress using the right-size syringe for the job. The sterile fluid path (SP) syringes are designed for all standard IV procedures. By using pre-filled saline flush syringes you can create time saving efficiencies, enhance and improve flush compliance and reduce storage and disposal costs. Adrenaline should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks to the foetus. If used during pregnancy, adrenaline may cause anoxia to the foetus. When administering narcotic medication through a port should the nurse dilute the medication by adding saline to the medication before giving it? Or can putting narcotic push medication at the top of the IV line dilute the dose of medication that is supposed to be given?

Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie. In cardiac arrest following cardiac surgery, Adrenaline should be administered intravenously in doses of 0.5 ml or 1 ml of 1:10,000 solution (50 or 100 micrograms) very cautiously and titrated to effect. Adrenaline is rapidly inactivated in the body, mostly in the liver by the enzymes catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and monoamine oxidase (MAO). Most of a dose of adrenaline is excreted as metabolites in urine. So, if you need to measure 2.3 milliliters (0.08 fl oz), draw the liquid to the third line above the 2 line. If you need to measure 2.7 milliliters (0.09 fl oz), that will be the second line above the 2.5 mL mark.

Frequency not known: pallor, coldness of the extremities. In high dosage or for patients sensitive to adrenaline: hypertension (with risk of cerebral haemorrhage), vasoconstriction (for example cutaneous, in the extremities or kidneys). Myth: Diluting small-volume doses of medication, such as 0.5 mL, to ensure the patient gets the whole dose is a good idea.
