Similar to its predecessor, the On comes in multiple versions with different m!xable characters and exclusive locations. Two versions, Fairy and Magic, are available in all territories. Name Replacement: The Tamagotchi's or user's name may have one or two letters replaced by random letters or symbols. The glitch occurs after a reset or Tamagotchi's death and it's unknown what causes it. To prevent the battery from completely draining when the Smart is not being used for a long time, it is recommended to fully turn it off after charging it. This is done by pressing the reset button, holding both the reset and front button down until the ROM screen shows up, and letting the Smart idle on that screen until it turns off. Wrapping♥ (Gift): The Tamagotchi will be wrapping up a present. The user has 12 seconds to mash the A button as much as they can to fill the meter. After 12 seconds, the Tamagotchi will wrap up the present and its quality will depend on how full the meter is.

The Tamagotchi Smart has two ending sequences, both which occur based on different types of neglect. If the Tamagotchi is about to die or run away, selecting this icon will save them, returning the Tamagotchi to normal. The sprites for the egg, Pachikutchi, and Pichikutchi are all recycled from the original Tamagotchi Nano.

The first release to not show a Tamagotchi's gender on its profile screen. While gender is not mentioned, it still affects what Tamagotchi a younger stage will grow into and what marriage partners they'll be offered in the TaMatching app.

If the Tamagotchi needs something, the user can press the C button for an animation to see what it needs. If the Tamagotchi looks away and shows a dizzy spiral, it's hungry; if it sulks, it's unhappy. If its Hungry and Happy meters are not empty, it will perform a Close Up.Egg Match (Game Corner, Pastel): The tamagotchi will be standing in front of 15 bushes which will briefly show what's behind them (14 eggs and 1 bunny). The bushes will hide their contents again and the user must select the bushes hiding eggs with matching designs while avoiding selecting the bunny which will end the game. Several characters from the Tamagotchi m!x in the announcement video were teased to be released on TamaSma Cards, but production of new cards stopped before they could make an appearance. Gozaru Village: Remodel the house with the Gozaru wallpaper, then use the Conch Horn obtained from Mermaid Palace. This is the first Tamagotchi model to include alternate sprites based on which direction the character is facing. This was done so that characters who wear their bow on the top right of their head like Hello Kitty does (such as Mametchi) will always have the bow in the correct position. A total of six different versions of the Tamagotchi m!x were released between 2016 and 2018. Each version has their own distinct design, items, locations, and characters that can be interacted with and married. All versions can connect and marry with each other. The six versions are as follows:The Happy Meter is a meter in the status screen. It is measured in points (up to 100), visually represented by 18 colored bars. Baby, child and teen characters can only fill the bar halfway (45 points), while adults can fill it entirely. How full the meter is determines how the Tamagotchi moves on screen and interacts with the user, as well as influencing child and teen evolutions. From the second generation onward, it has a small influence on what genetics are inherited. Mametchi loves inventing things and though sometimes he fails he will succeed - he just keeps trying! He loves to study and play sports, and works hard at everything he does! The Tamagotchi Smart is smaller than previous color-screen models, measuring 6.5 centimeters tall (approx. 2.5 inches), making it similar in size and weight to the Tamagotchi Connection and Tamagotchi Plus models.

The m!x takes place primarily in a town referred to as " My Town" (じぶんのタウン Jibun no Town). There are four locations to visit, accessed through the TamaDepa and Park option. Items obtained from other towns can also cause the theme of My Town to change. For example, using items from Flower Hills frequently will give the park and architecture of My Town a floral theme. This directly impacts adult evolution during the first generation, and may influence the genetics of My Tamas from the second generation onward. The Tamagotchi may then reference the answer later in another conversation or when talking to another Tamagotchi. They may also tell the user how they feel about their caretaking. Instead of moving around the screen like previous virtual pets, the Tamagotchi will always be positioned at the bottom right corner of the living room. Tapping the character will cause the character to come close to the screen, and bring up a menu of various options.The Tamagotchi Meets App and Tamagotchi On App are special tie-in apps. The Meets app was made available on mobile OS systems on November 10th, 2018, while the On app was released on July 28, 2019. The user can send their Tamagotchi to a plaza, where they can play games, collect items and Gotchi Points, and marry other characters. The app also periodically distributes exclusive items and characters, beginning with Okazarutchi in February 2019. In this menu, the Attention icon doesn't appear among the main icons, instead appearing at the top-right corner of the screen if the Tamagotchi calls.
