I don't want to use the adapter in the box (which delivers 24V / 500mA DC), as I don't want wires trailing unnecessarily. Maybe get the wiring to the front door where the Video doorbell eventually go and have that fed to the Consumer Unit box and a spare location, or to near a plug point and get the Ring Doorbell with Plug Adapter You could then wire the bell wire to the plug adapter cable ends. Could I not simply replace the current transformer (shown in green in my picture above) with a new one?

Nevertheless a lower load than the nominal one destabilizes the voltage output, which by standard has a tolerance of 15% at full load but 100% with no load! Read more about the condition New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). When the bell box is replaced for the Ring transformer and it's housing module, then does the same apply or should that be placed up high on the wall? com/hc/en-us/articles/115000148786-Ring-Video-Doorbell-Pro-European-Version ,so needs to go into a CU. I'm having a porch built and the wiring for a standard dumb wired doorbell has already been costed into the quote. Using a transformer to supply a lower load than the nominal power reduces the power loss containing the temperature rise of a bell transformer used continuously.

Disconnect power to the installation area at your circuit breaker or fuse box before beginning installation. I have a Ring Pro Hardwired doorbell, and am having a devil of a job sourcing an appropriate transformer for it.

this way i think the 24VAC will be protected by the RCD and MCB in the main consumer unit, and can be isolated by the switch in the additional CU if required. However, this gave a constant low level hum, loud enough that sitting in our living room to read, we could hear it (even though the transformer was in the hallway). I was hoping to avoid using a standard UK mains socket to connect to the Ring as I thought it'd look more ugly.

Will the Honeywell Ding Dong 117 work with the Doorbell Wired when powered by the DIN Rail Transformer (2nd Gen), or should I be using a different chime in the UK? This is an ac/dc 'power supply' and although designed to mount on a DIN rail, it should be fed via a mcb. Unfortunately i don't have enough space in my consumer unit to house it (it needs 2 slots, i only have 1 ).Those DIN-rail-mounted transformers for installation in the consumer unit are extremely common across the channel in Europe; so what's absolutely normal over there appears unusual in the UK. When it comes time to change to a hardwired Ring device then I'll need to replace the bell box with a Ring transformer that'll step down to 24v and then place this in some suitable housing. An electrician recently installed a replacement transformer for one that had burnt out in my old door bell. If it doesn't, can't you just get a spur off a nearby lighting ctt and power your doorbell transformer from that?
