Description

A pirate lair space costs nothing; if the treasure token is still there, it is removed from the game and the player takes a treasure card, putting it next to his holds.

We then take that and make it into something that is quite unique to Jamaica and our people. The Ludi or Ludo as it is originally called, is a prime example of that. Where Did Ludi Originate? We have to mention the components of the game. It’s money well spent with gorgeous modular ships and everything is produced well. What Could Be Better: We couldn’t find any misprints or erratas in this game but if you have something to add about this point please let us know about it! Similar Games

It should also be said that the components provided with the game are of superior quality. The ships look great and there is no expense spared when it comes to the cargo holds and tokens. If I were going to change anything though, I’d buy metal doubloons. Just because… It’d be cool… Final Thoughts on Jamaica There’s actually a surprising amount that a player can do in this game. Each player will be in charge of their own nautical career and how they go about doing that is entirely up to them.

It is one of the only pirate party games that I’ve found, however. This one was just too weird to not include. What We Liked: Players can explore new lands, peacefully trade and become wealthy, become a pirate, or even become bounty hunters. There’s a lot to do, and every path is a viable path to victory. To determine who goes first, players take turns rolling the dice, the person with the highest outcome goes first. When a player’s final space already contains a ship, they must first Battle before paying anything for the space. You get points equal to the white number in the top corner of the space your ship currently sits on. The further along you are, the higher that number will be.

A player can have more than one treasure card, and any treasure can be stolen or given during combat. It’s quite rare to find a game like this that can have 6 players while still moving along swiftly and finishing in 45 minutes. It’s honestly more fun to play with 5 or 6, rather than only 2 players. The game relies heavily on the player’s decisions and has a bit of an unpredictable nature to it which gives it high replayability. What Could Be Better: The winner of the battle can choose one of three rewards (1) Steal the contents of any one of the loser’s holds, (2) Steal a treasure card from the loser or (3) Give a cursed treasure card to the loser. Each player takes a ship's hold board, a ship and a matching set of action cards, which are shuffled and placed facedown above the holds. Ships are placed on the Port Royale space on the board. Each player gets a hold player board. These represent the five different hold of the ship and will ultimately be where you place various tokens you collect. We really like the new way shortages are handled. The Shortage die is great. It also happens to be the Battle die. But with a Shortage you just look at the symbol (circle, square, or skull). The long and short of it is that if you already have Jamaica, you don’t need to worry about getting the new version. (Though we do recommend you start using the new Shortage rules by getting a marker and adding the circles, squares, and skull to the Combat die.) On top of that bit of ingenious dice-rolling mechanics, the components are actually quite impressive too. Each player has a modular ship. As players upgrade their ships, they’ll be able to add cargo holds, cannons, and extra sails. It’s a very cool idea and looks pretty impressive when fully kitted out. What We Liked:
