Writing in The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw gave the film 2 stars out of 5 and reported that "Tom Rob Smith's page-turning bestseller from 2008 has been turned into a heavy, indigestible meal of a film, full of actors speaking English with very heavy Russian accents – actors from England, Sweden, Lebanon, Poland, Australia, almost anywhere but Russia". So, with the trilogy at a close, I hope I’ve created three books that not only stand on their own but also dance with each other. Reading them took you back in time to the Soviet Union and made you feel you were actually living and experiencing those periods of history.

Deftly capturing the claustrophobic intensity of the Cold War-era Soviet Union, it's at once a heart-pounding thriller and a richly atmospheric novel of extraordinary depth. Tom Rob Smith’s Child 44 trilogy was an immediate publishing sensation and marked the arrival of a major new talent in contemporary fiction. Tom Rob Smith has utilised cinematic technique here (not to mention upping the number of suspenseful set pieces), and some will prefer the more complex character building of the first book (still the finest in the sequence), but for most readers this final Leo Dormidov novel will push all the requisite buttons. His novels in the Child 44 trilogy were New York Times bestsellers and international publishing sensations. This novel, the first in a trilogy, takes inspiration from the crimes of Andrei Chikatilo, also known as the Rostov Ripper, the Butcher of Rostov, and the Red Ripper.

Now that the truth is out, Leo, Raisa, and their family are in grave danger from someone consumed by the dark legacy of Leo's past career. With his new and secretive homicide department, Leo Demidov investigates–only to find that he, his wife, and his two adopted daughters may be in grave danger. The state has declared itself a paradise and trying to go against the state you will find yourself in great trouble. Fortified by formidable details of Soviet history, Smith's closing volume of the Leo Demidov trilogy (Child 44; The Secret Speech) knits together iconic characters and elements. The second and third books in the trilogy, titled The Secret Speech (April 2009) and Agent 6 (July 2011), respectively, also feature the protagonist Leo Demidov and his wife, Raisa.

As the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were occupied by the Soviet Union and as members of the EU, they officially received the film release. From the streets of Moscow in the throes of political upheaval, to the Siberian gulags and the Hungarian uprising in Budapest, The Secret Speech is a breathtaking novel that confirms Tom Rob Smith as one of the most exciting authors writing today. In the Rostov tractor factory, Leo identifies the killer by cross-referencing worker travel with the location and date of the murders. He is determined to carry out investigations but the problem is how can he investigate a crime that does not exist? Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. The film was also withdrawn from cinemas due to distributor’s decision [1] in Belarus, [15] Ukraine, [16] Kazakhstan, [17] and Kyrgyzstan, while release of the film was postponed until October in Georgia.

Quickly it becomes apparent that Leo himself - and his family - are in danger from someone intent on revenge. His first novel, Child 44, about a series of child murders in Stalinist Russia, appeared in early 2008 and was translated into 17 languages. From the streets of Moscow in the throes of political upheaval, to the Siberian gulags, and to the center of the Hungarian uprising in Budapest, The Secret Speech is a breathtaking, epic novel that confirms Tom Rob Smith as one of the most exciting new authors writing today.

Bradshaw added: "Tom Hardy brings his robust, muscular presence to the role of Leo and he is watchable enough, but the forensic and psychological aspects are just dull; there is no fascination in the detection process. But when his wife and daughters are invited on a “peace tour” to New York City, he is immediately suspicious. In the last book, the time was 1956; Stalin had died, and it was the time of Nikita Khrushchev’s revisionist pronouncements (such as the ‘secret speech’ of the title, in which the Stalinist regime was – for the first time – roundly denounced). it describes two brothers who are trying to catch a stray cat and smith is able to narrate the story in a unique way which will catch even the people who are used to reading thriller novels with a surprise.

Leo witnesses the brutality of the secret police, he is part of its brutality and he turns his back on it. Presumably a decision made to placate the former, opting to turn the film into an Iron Curtain version of 'Allo 'Allo!I would have given a 5 stars for the first 2 books and a 3 stars for "Agent 6", so I give this triloly a 4 stars! The novel is exquisitely and wonderfully plotted and most the most amazing side of it is that it is fearfully narrated. Hachette Book Group is a leading book publisher based in New York and a division of Hachette Livre, the third-largest publisher in the world. To defend this workers' paradise - and to guarantee a secure life for his parents and for his wife, Raisa - Leo has spent his career guarding against threats to the State. Tom Rob Smith's debut, Child 44, was an immediate sensation and marked the arrival of a major new talent in contemporary fiction.
