Like and not a love for me only because I wish it had a bigger scent bubble - it sits quite close to the skin and and stops just short of creating an air of cleanliness around you. overall though, the scent is appealing, smells pretty good, and actually has a bit of sweetness to it, there is some enticing quality, but it does not come off as overtly masculine or rough, in fact it could be considered a touch feminine similar in the way dior homme does that. It's a very old school, masculine, aromatic fougere that checks all the boxes with sharp citrus, lavender, tobacco, wood.

Few hours later, I’m getting that sweet tobacco which, despite the ratings here, I don’t pickup much of initially.I got a decent deal with the 125 ml bottle and spraying it on me generously,enjoying the beautiful scent. It's judging it entirely on its own merits with no reference to a previous version or any batch chat to colour my vision. The scent opens with a stimulating and dynamic freshness with the citrus notes of bergamot, tangerine orange and lemon and the woody end note hinges on an accord of sandalwood, cedar wood and tobacco musk.

The only version that made me feel a huge difference (not in a good way) was the screechy Made in UK one which was bland and fell so short of my expectations that i ended up selling it a few years ago. It might not stack up against some of the newbies on the scene for longevity and sillage, but if you’ve been around as long as the early 70s, this still deserves a place in your top 10.I can spray this without thinking if it will be suitable for any occasion, when i want to smell more serious but a similar vibe i go for penhaligon's sartorial. The longevity and beast projection on not what it once was but the formula has captured the lavender and tobacco classic that made this one of the most iconic male fragrances of all time. Personally though, citrus forward scents are not my style, but there are some I do like, and the rest I can just get along with. I’ve heard the current formulation is much weaker and doesn’t last as long which is a shame as this is an amazing scent!
