FastLayer Core - The new FastLayer Core offers distance and soft feel without compromise due to a gradual transition from the soft inner core to the firm outer edge. Bauer Media Group consists of : Bauer Consumer Media Ltd, Company number 01176085; Bauer Radio Limited, I noticed a slight drop off in distance with driver, woods and mid-irons. However, there was no distance change with full wedges shots which I was pleased about. This ball is designed for lower compression so if your swing speed is moderate to slow this could be a great option. And if you liked the 2020 Srixon Q-STAR Tour, you’ll be happy to know Srixon followed the ball maker’s Hippocratic oath: First, do no harm. When Srixon introduced the Q-STAR Tour DIVIDE two-color balls last spring, they included much of what’s new in this “standard” version. The high points are the ever-evolving FastLayer Core, that thinner cover we discussed earlier and an elongated alignment stamp.

The signature Srixon Fast Layer Core is one of those crazy compounds that companies like Sumitomo Rubber Industries (the SRI is Srixon) and Bridgestone use because, well, they’re rubber experts and they can. The Fast Layer Core is soft on the inside and firmer toward the outside, sort of like a Tootsie Pop. The end result is that it acts like a four-piece ball but is a hell of a lot easier to make. The new Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE is a performer, through and through. Unlike painted golf balls, DIVIDE’s entire thermoplastic urethane cover is infused with bright pigments, so the color won’t scratch or tear. Plus, that premium urethane adds spin for plenty of control around the greens. It’s important to note the red and yellow coloring isn’t painted on. The urethane itself is infused with colored pigments so each half of the cover is solid red or solid yellow. Another Srixon signature is the 338 Speed Dimple Pattern. Srixon balls do have a reputation for performing well in the wind and the 338 Speed Dimple Pattern is designed to reduce drag and increase lift. Lower drag helps keep the ball online while greater lift helps keep the ball in the air longer. The Elephant in the RoomQ-STAR Tour won the spin contest in Srixon’s head-to-head wedge testing against the TaylorMade Tour Response and the Titleist Tour Speed. With a 58-degree wedge and a 35-mph swing, the Q-STAR Tour had nearly 400 more rpm than the TaylorMade and nearly 800 more than the Titleist. It was, of course, Srixon’s test, so the results should be taken with a prescription-strength grain of salt. FastLayer Cores and Speed Dimples FastLayer Core offers distance and soft feel due to the gradual transition from the soft to firm outer edge Welcome to The Golf Shop Online, where our passion for golf drives us to provide you with an exceptional shopping experience! Of the three, the new FastLayer core is the most interesting. If you move up Srixon’s ownership chain, you’ll ultimately arrive at Sumitomo Rubber Industries, the “SRI” in Srixon. SRI is a multi-billion-dollar tire and rubber company and, like Bridgestone, has rubber engineers coming out of its all-season radials. The FastLayer Core is a bit of rubber alchemy that’s soft in the center and gets progressively firmer toward the outside. The end result is a core that’s both firm and soft.

Srixon categorizes the Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE as mid-to-high-launch and, at 72 compression, it definitely registers on the soft side. This new ball is a performer, through and through. Unlike painted golf balls, DIVIDE’s entire thermoplastic urethane cover is infused with bright pigments so that the colour won’t scratch or tear. Plus, that premium urethane adds spin for plenty of control around the greens. The goal with this new version was to make some incremental improvements without reinventing the wheel,” says Srixon General Manager Brian Schielke. “The new Q-STAR Tour features a softer mid-layer which produces better feel and an increase in spin.” I would say keep a lookout for other colors coming later this year,” Schielke says of the Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE. “This is exciting and we think it’s going to appeal to a lot of golfers.” If, however, you’re a traditionalist and think optic yellow screams driving range and is an affront to the game’s sacred traditions, you might want to skip this article. It won’t make you happy. The Q-STAR TOUR ball does have its following. It’s a modestly priced urethane ball so it has that going for it, despite the 2019 version’s performance in Ball Lab. We’ll see with the 2021 version. Color aside, the Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE is the most up-to-date version of the Q-STAR TOUR. It features what Srixon calls a 338 Speed Dimple Pattern. The company says it’s designed for a penetrating ball flight, increasing lift and reducing drag. Seve won at Augusta and Tom Watson won at Royal Birkdale. Natalie Gulbis, Carrie Underwood and Mila Kunis were all born, and Jimmy Demaret, Muddy Waters and Gloria Swanson all died. Speed Dimple Pattern - Providing a penetrating ball flight in any conditions, the optimal dimple design increases lift and reduces drag to maximise distance.

For those with a long memory, it’s here we note the 2019 Q-STAR TOUR ball scored, to be kind, not so great in MyGolfSpy’s Ball Lab test last fall. More than one-third of the balls tested were out of round, with 25 percent suffering significant layer concentricity issues. Srixon has plants in both Japan and Indonesia and the Q-STAR TOUR samples we tested were from Indonesia. We haven’t tested the Q-STAR TOUR DIVIDE yet. We did test the 2019 Z-STAR last fall and it tested out favorably while the 2021 Z-STAR XV came in as average. It wasn’t like someone said, ‘Hey, let’s make a two-tone golf ball’, and, presto, the engineers had it done the next day,” says Schielke. “It took quite a bit of prototyping, testing, getting the colors right and getting a really clean seam.” The ball is still the popular Q-Star Tour, so it performs wonderfully in all areas of the game like the best mid-priced golf balls. Its premium urethane cover adds spin for plenty of greenside control. A resilient mid-layer increases speed off the tee. We had no problem maxing out tee-shot distance, in our testing. Company number: 1394141; Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, Getting a 72-compression ball to spin like a firmer Tour-level ball is next to impossible. And making the mid-layer softer isn’t going to help much. Greenside spin comes from a larger delta between a soft thin cover and a firm mid-layer. Srixon has the thinnest urethane covers in the game (Q-STAR Tour’s is 0.5mm, same as the Z-STAR) and Srixon’s unique spin-enhancing SeRM coating will help. But, in this case, spin is relative. If Srixon did go ahead with a Tour-level DIVIDE type, they’d probably have to forgo a matte finish. As we’ve learned, when matte balls get wet, they tend to launch significantly higher and spin significantly less than balls with a traditional gloss finish. I was really impressed with the spin I got from the Srixon Q Star Tour Divide. The striking colour contrast meant I could really see the spin my ball had through the air and then when landing on the green. It was really satisfying hitting full wedge shots and seeing them spin up. Three-piece urethane-covered ball that provides premium tech in a model that’s suitable for moderate swing speeds. Uses Tour technologies found in the Z-Star series like FastLayer, Spin Skin with SeRM, and Speed Dimples but with a softer compression (72). 338 dimple reduces drag and improves flight for more distance. The performance, technology, manufacturing techniques, the machinery—it’s all the same between the facilities,” says Schielke. Brighten up your game with the New Srixon Q-Star Tour Divide Golf Balls feature a 50/50 matte urethane cover with yellow on one half and blue on the other, making spin visible and putting alignment easier than ever. Q-Star Tour Golf Balls are Srixon’s softest ball with tour-level performance. FastLayer technology and the largest core in its class make the ball fast of the face and long off the tee. The new SeRM urethane cover delivers one-hop stop control around the greens. The 2020 Q-STAR Tour was a middle-of-the-road performer in last year’s MGS Ball Test. By and large, it was low spin with both the driver and iron at all three swing speeds tested. And out of all 37 balls tested, it finished no lower than 12 th in iron carry distance in each swing speed. Driver distance, however, was a different story. It was a top-half performer in the mid-swing speed category but finished near the bottom with both high and low swing speeds. Since those humble beginnings, our endeavour has blossomed into a robust and trusted online retailer, representing the leading brands in the golf industry. We take immense pride in being your go-to destination for all things golf! One of the shifts we’re seeing in the golf ball market is line extension. OEMs are putting more offerings on the table in hopes of scratching different golf ball itches. Srixon is taking that to the next level. The new Q-STAR Tour release now brings its urethane ball count to 12.
